Strengths

Goes through full-field progressions. Hits receivers in stride on throws between the numbers. Great ball placement on underneath throws. Darts short passes to open targets. Ideal timing/accuracy on deeper in-breaking routes. Decisive with a quick release. Throws a very catchable ball. Feathery touch on deep passes. Good overall field vision. Knows when to throw a back-shoulder ball based on coverage. Knows when to throw high for target to use his size. Can drift in the pocket before setting his feet and making an accurate throw down the field. Has the arm strength to drive a throw outside the numbers over a zone defender. Very good velocity on throws to the sideline in general. Will try to let things develop in long-yardage situations before hitting a checkdown. Able to accurately drive the ball while on the run. Has the arm talent to quickly torque passes across his body going to his right. Very good escapability from the pocket. Natural feel for pressure and how to evade it. Keeps his eyes downfield when on the move. Plus overall mobility. Tough as a runner and shows intensity. Will lay out to put up necessary yardage. Slides to protect himself on non-do-or-die situations.

Weaknesses

Has stretches where accuracy is off. Would like to see him tighten up mechanics to be more consistent. Sometimes will fail to anticipate an open target. Needs to be more wary of and/or look off safety. Too eager to escape rather than staying in the pocket at times. May not be able to do as much scrambling/running versus NFL defenders. Kyler Murray-style deep drops less likely to work for him at the next level. Small hands (mainly concerned about fumbles).

NFL comparison

Derek Carr

Conclusion

Overall, Pickett is an intelligent, accurate quarterback that can play between the numbers or push the ball when things open up downfield. While not as advanced as a pure pocket passer, Pickett is very similar to Derek Carr with added comfortability making plays out of the structure.
