Strengths

Ideal overall size/build for an in-line tight end. Great branching out on corner routes and short posts. Runs very smooth routes in general and doesn’t tip his hand on breaks. Able to dip and deceive on the second level. Catches the ball cleanly on the move. Glides with speed down the seam when given free releases. Very light feet with uniqueness creating space. Good ability to settle in the hole on underneath throws. Slides with the quarterback and has a feel for finding space in coverage. Dangerous with good timing on delayed quick screens. Strong with the ball in his hands. Excellent overall blocker. Squares up opponents and moves his feet to stick with them. Strikes with balance and has excellent drive technique. Exceptional leader blocker in space. Very effective blocking on the edge. Aggressive finishing blocks. Great in pass protection. Held up versus both Aidan Hutchinson and Kayvon Thibodeaux when matched up (2021).

Weaknesses

Hands are inconsistent in general (doesn’t wear gloves). Could be slow getting his eyes around at times with underneath drops. Too many drops with coverage draped on him. Too easily redirected by early jams.

Conclusion

Overall, Otton is an all-around tight end that blocks at a high level and should have increased upside as a pass-catcher in an NFL offense. He will have a case to be the first player drafted at the position for a team on Day 2 targeting a more traditional option.
