Strengths
Lightning quickness on the interior. Strong lower half. Phenomenal burst off the ball. Outstanding fluidity in his body movements to contort around blockers. Great athleticism. Extremely light on his feet. Tremendous ability to find a rush angle and penetrate through the gap. Terrorizing instincts to find the ball when attacking as a penetrator. Relentless as a pass rusher. Exceptional bull rush with his combination of quickness and leverage/strength. Uses an outside hop and swipe move. Extremely effective on swim moves and rips. Great pulldown move. Very fast getting home on stunts when given a clear path. Tremendous acceleration and closing burst. Excellent speed in pursuit. Hits with force and inflicts punishment on takedowns. Impressive strength to hold his ground versus the run. Too quick to cut off on down blocks. Has experience lining up anywhere from over the center to five-technique. Competes hard and doesn’t back down from opponents.
Weaknesses
Undersized with below-average length. Not as relentless if not getting upfield as a penetrator. Gets moved off the spot versus stronger opponents and double teams. Struggles to disengage for a tackle in the hole. Play recognition is inconsistent versus the run. Can get lost inside due to his size. Will lunge and go to his knees trying to finish. Ends up on the ground quite a bit.

Conclusion
Overall, Kancey is an extremely disruptive interior defender that fits best as a three-technique in a penetrating defensive scheme. Improvement is needed defending the run, but Kancey can become a terrorizing pass-rush specialist for an NFL team.
