Strengths

Outstanding straight-line speed. Ideal frame and length. Wraps up to tackle behind the line of scrimmage. Takes excellent angles to the ball. Possesses strength in his hands to shed. Uses power to extend and then quick to disengage for a tackle. Great hand placement with two-handed extension to set the edge. Aggressive holding his ground when tight ends try to take him on. Physical taking on pullers. Fast and aggressive into the backfield when unblocked as the backside defender. Will create disruption crashing inside. Tremendous closing burst. Exceptional balance to withstand chips/contact and stay on his feet. Impressive speed rush with the ability to slap down and use a hop step. Has flashed a strong bull rush. Very good ability to flatten at the top of his rush. Strong hands to bring down quarterbacks with reaching attempts. Outstanding pursuit and hustle. Experience on both sides of the formation. Does a quality job dropping in coverage and has defending running backs downfield. Team captain. Brings value on special teams with four career blocked kicks (including two blocked punts in one game).

Weaknesses

Movements can be a bit robotic. Feet are rigid with side-to-side movements. Slow reaction time and twitch to disengage when opponents latch on. Would like to see counter moves and general approach as a pass rusher have more urgency. Hands can be more consistently active as a rusher.

Conclusion

Overall, Foskey is an excellent run defender with high production as the all-time career sack leader at Notre Dame. If he can unlock his speed to become more consistently urgent, Foskey should continue to be productive at the next level.
