Strengths

Good overall size with muscular build. Outstanding burst/acceleration. Above-average speed. Smooth movement skills. Strong and aggressive with press jams. Exceptional in bump-and-run coverage. Excellent awareness in zone coverage. Often used in cloud zones. Flows to the right spot in zone coverage when quarterback escape the pocket. Can be all over short routes in man coverage. Quick to close space on in-breaking routes. Stays in the hip pocket of wideouts on underneath cuts. Either goes for the ball or makes the tackle at the catch point. Can bait quarterbacks by giving a small cushion and break on the throw. Tremendous ball skills and playmaking ability. Tracks passes like a wide receiver. Great with the ball in his hands. Aggressive in run support. Very tough as a tackler. Works to get off blocks and tries to prevent opponents from latching on. Keeps outside contain on runs to the perimeter. Comes down off the edge to tackle. Will deliver a big hit if given the chance. Mostly played left cornerback but has experience in the slot. Dangerous as a punt returner.

Weaknesses

Length appears to be average for his size. Will peak in the backfield and allow opponents to get vertical. Has some vulnerability defending the deep ball in man coverage. Can be slow getting out of side shuffle versus comeback/stop routes. Sometimes lunges rather than keeping his feet and running through to tackle.

Conclusion

Overall, DeJean is a well-rounded cornerback that will play man coverage, zone coverage, take the ball away, and defend the run. He projects to be a scheme-versatile option that can go into the slot when needed.
