Strengths
Very clean and compact throwing mechanics. Throws a very catchable ball. Has plenty of arm strength. Pinpoint accuracy on corner routes. Very confident throwing at the intermediate level. Able to rip throws into windows between the numbers. Terrific touch on downfield throws. Leads targets down the field. Can fire deep posts between the corner and safety. Knows how to put touch on high passes versus contested coverage. Tremendous timing on comebacks and routes outside the numbers. Shows he can work full progressions. Stays poised while reading the field with a clean pocket. Great accuracy and zip on short throws versus zone coverage. Very good overall ball placement. Waits for short/intermediate targets to clear coverage and uncorks the throw. Excellent on trailing wheel routes. Tremendous trajectory and touch in scoring territory. Throws back-shoulder passes up and away from the defender. Can lower his arm angle to get a throw off. Excellent on-the-move accuracy. Great field vision on rollouts. Quick to set himself to get a pass off after scrambling. Good mobility and athleticism. Strong to break some would-be sacks. Can do some damage on designed runs and scrambles. Experience with pro-style concepts and play-action from under center. Carries out fakes and uses eye manipulation.
Weaknesses
Seems to lock onto throws early rather than reading it out. Makes too many risky throws where he doesn’t see the defender. Doesn’t have a plan when the pocket collapses and seemed to lose confidence. Field vision drops and accuracy is sporadic versus pressure. Can get reckless trying to make a throw when pressured. Needs to sense pressure better in general. Struggles most with interior pressure. Would like to see him take the checkdowns and easy completions more. Will have some passed batted down at the line of scrimmage.

Conclusion
Overall, Leary is a well-rounded passer that can attack all areas of the field and flashes with some big-time throws into tight windows. He should benefit from an offense that makes things easier on him with more short-passing concepts and an improved supporting cast.
