Strengths

Solid and compact build. Tremendous burst for his running style. Exceptional balance and strength. Excellent feet. Makes quick cuts in the open field. Has shown good speed when he gets into space. Runs with great determination. Very strong to break tackles around his waist and keep rolling. Can brush off and step out of low tackle attempts. Finishes runs with power and physicality. Lowers his shoulder into contact. Keeps his feet moving to extend runs as defenders try bringing him down. Natural instincts to evade and break tackles in a crowd. Awesome in the open field. Terrific forward-looking vision/feel. Excellent ability to plant and cut/accelerate on the second level. Sets up defenders by pushing his path towards the edge before suddenly cutting downhill. Has shake to make defenders miss with space to set it up. Will bounce runs if things are clogged inside. Strong stiff arm. Sells handoffs on play-action fakes. Experience as a wildcat quarterback and taking direct snaps. Very effective weapon in the passing game. Soft hands. Dangerous on screen passes. Outstanding on wheel routes out of the backfield. Impressive ability to track the ball downfield. Very good protecting the edge as a pass blocker. Overcame personal adversity by growing up homeless.

Weaknesses

Early vision is just OK and can be late seeing the hole. Seems to lack patience and creativity behind the line of scrimmage. Sometimes retreats and loses yardage rather than just getting what he can. Doesn’t break tackles as well before getting going. Not as effective taking on inside blitzers in pass protection.

Conclusion

Overall, Davis is a determined, well-rounded running back that can set the tone and shouldn’t be overlooked for what he can do in space and as a receiver. If he can become more consistent in pass protection, Davis should be a three-down option for an NFL offense.
