Strengths

Prototype deep safety. Very good overall size. Plays fast and aggressively. Great speed and acceleration. Fantastic reaction time. Very fluid hips. Outstanding eyes and instincts. Excellent feel for play development in deep zone coverage. Superb ball skills and production. Can catch like a wide receiver down the field. Exceptional athleticism and body control with the ball in the air. Able to range sideline to sideline. Smooth in the backpedal. Instinctive in robber coverage. Quick to defend routes in front of him. Good ability when used in man coverage. Flies around to get in on the action. Terrific pursuit to the sideline. Shows no hesitation taking on a ball-carrier head on. Very quick to diagnose quick passes and screens. Runs full speed to the ball and wraps up on underneath throws. Great ability to get to the ball while avoiding blockers/traffic. Strikes low and doesn’t hesitate to hit. Tremendous overall hustle. Fast into the backfield as a blitzer. Very effective run defender in the red zone. Comfortable playing in the box. Will line up close to the line of scrimmage and get his hands dirty.

Weaknesses

Will roam a bit at times in single-high coverage. Could be a little slow to play vertical routes that come at him as a deep safety. Strength as a tackler can be inconsistent. Doesn’t always get opponents to the ground immediately despite willingness to hit. Would like to see him keep eyes on his target more as a tackler.

Conclusion

Overall, Kinchens is a single-high, centerfield-type safety that can take the ball away and will come up to tackle with aggression. The instincts, ball skills, and speed at which he plays should make him one of the drafts best values as a projected selection late on Day 2.
