Strengths

Top-tier acceleration and quickness. Excellent speed. Extremely refined route runner. Runs every route at full speed. Everything looks the same until he makes his break. Creative footwork running routes. Complete release package. Terrific hop-step release. Natural separator. Cuts are extremely crisp. Gets opponents off balance with deception and quickness. Attacks leverage and glides into the next phase of his route. Creates impressive separation on out-breaking routes from the perimeter. Will use a head fake and foot plant to leverage cornerbacks on deep routes. Can get vertical both on the outside and from the slot. Tracks the ball at a high level. Flashed a nasty stutter-and-go double move. Sells downfield routes and will get cornerbacks turned around on comebacks. Threat of running past opponents gets them in retreat. Quick throttling down on routes back to the quarterback. Will sink and explode on post cuts. Great hand-eye coordination and catch focus. Looks the ball into his hands. Gets his feet down along the boundary. Catches the ball smoothly across the middle. Instantly goes into run-after-catch mode. Shows courage in traffic. Effective on screen passes. Very slippery with the ball in his hands. Great juke move. Committed and effective with good strength as a blocker. High football character and hustle.

Weaknesses

Below-average size. Physicality and contact will slow him down. Has some struggles getting off jams when opponents get hands on him. Can end up on the ground if knocked around. Has dealt with nagging ankle and back injuries in his career.

Conclusion

Overall, McConkey is an extremely advanced route runner with impressive traits that is difficult for cornerbacks to stick with. The quickness, ball skills, and ability to attack all three levels should lead to him drawing consideration as a top-15 pick.
