Strengths

Big-time vertical and breakaway speed. Top-tier acceleration. Will get a step on cornerbacks early for vertical routes with a clean release. Consistently gets behind the defense. Tracks downfield throws well. Very effective on posts and deeper in-breaking routes. Shows an ability to extend with his hands to snatch passes over the middle. Outstanding stutter-and-go release. Uses stair-step release to get cornerbacks on their heels. Tremendous quickness and shake to create separation underneath. Will cross up opponents on slant routes. Exceptional speed and crispness into cuts. Out ruts are quick and fluid. Excellent ability to throttle down for comeback routes. Bursts to separate working back to the quarterback. Comfortable working along the sideline and getting his feet down. Good ability to secure low passes. Able to get vertical from the slot. Recognizes cornerbacks sitting in short zones and will get his head around for hole shots down the sideline. Knows how to find space when the quarterback scrambles. Often used on quick perimeter screens for RPOs. Smooth catching the ball downfield and looping to avoid the defender and turn into a runner. Doesn’t break stride on body catches while on the move. Slippery and instinctive with the ball in his hands. Shows a willingness to block inside from close alignment.

Weaknesses

Has some inconsistency catching the ball over the shoulder on downfield throws. Seems to let the ball get too deep and would like to see him attack it. Hands can be inconsistent in general. Thin overall build with limited play strength. Can struggle to get off jams. Has shown effort but lacks strength and doesn’t sustain enough as a blocker.

Conclusion

Overall, Franklin is a deadly deep threat with tremendous speed and a very effective package of releases to create separation. He might not be a featured No. 1 target at the next level, but Franklin can be a valuable vertical option for an NFL offense.
