Strengths

Ideal overall size and great length. Athletic build. Exceptional overall strength. Stays wide and balanced. Outstanding acceleration and closing speed. Very strong hands. Excellent ability to shed. Tremendous lateral quickness. Effectively shuffles into the rushing lane to tackle as a run defender. Quick to stop and disengage in the opposite direction while slanting. Quick reacting to tackles on his backside shoulder. Terrific ability to shed/disengage to make a tackle. Very good quickness at the snap to prevent blockers from connecting. Disruptive slanting at the snap. Can get into the backfield to disrupt even if he doesn’t make the tackle. Quick shuffling to a spot at the snap. Holds his ground when digging in versus double teams. Able to anchor down late when initially moved off the spot. Fights through double teams to make the tackle. Very reliable bringing down opponents when he wraps up. Quick and low submarining to defend in short-yardage situations. Great balance and recognition to keep his feet versus cut blocks. Versatile lining up along the interior. Quick to win at the snap and split blockers. Hands are strong and active on power rushes. Excellent hand placement and extension strength to walk back opponents on power rushes. Very effective rip move off the ball. Impressive burst after using swim and rip moves. Fluid movement skills to disengage and loop to the quarterback. Will use a spin move as a rusher. Hits the quarterback with force when he gets a shot. Reaches up for deflections while closing. Saw snaps lined up on the edge.

Weaknesses

Sometimes want to see him burst into the backfield rather than engaging a blocker. Sealed off too easily on runs to the edge. Questionable agility with plays where he is pushed out when he should have a direct path to the ball. Inconsistent suddenly changing direction to finish. Needs to be more controlled and had too many grazing misses. Had a few missed opportunities by not being quite quick enough to bring down Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty (2024). Boxed in too much early in the first matchup versus Ohio State (2024). Failed to make an impact when matched up versus Ohio State guard/tackle Donovan Jackson (2024). Motor can run hot and cold. General inconsistency as a rusher.

Conclusion

Overall, Harmon is a big, strong, and athletic defensive lineman with tremendous ability to shed and potential as a rusher. More consistency and control as a finisher could help him be a more impactful defender at the next level.
