Strengths

Very solid overall build. Relentless and a tone-setter. Great overall balance. Very good athleticism for a relentless/power edge. Aggressive and strong taking on blockers. Tremendous extension strength and connects early to create space. Strong hands to disengage. Very aggressive wrapping up to finish. Great hustle and very good pursuit speed. Plays fast and closes with aggression. Light feet for his size. Quick into the backfield. Pushes offensive tackles inside as a run defender. Strong using one arm and getting square to set the edge. Too strong and aggressive inside for tight ends on reach blocks. Can blow up tight ends on cross-formation blocks. Shoulders stay square taking on a block while pursuing towards the sideline. Excellent vision and discipline as a backside defender. Outstanding tackler around the goal line. Switches between standing up and putting his hand in the dirt. Mostly played the right side but experience on the left edge. Gets off the ball quickly as a rusher. Keeps his eyes on the quarterback while rushing to react when they try to escape the pocket. Quick to disengage and always seems to capitalize when quarterbacks get off the spot. Impressive rush power shown versus bigger opponents. Will start up the field before attacking the frame of opponents on bull rushes. Has a tight interior and counter spin. Accurate hand placement with inside arm to keep space on the speed rush. Finishes with force to make quarterbacks feel it. Instinctive reacting to quick passes in his direction. Athletic dropping in coverage. Played through an ankle injury in the College Football Playoff and recorded 6.5 sacks in four games.

Weaknesses

Lacks the fluidity/twitch to bend/burst around the corner. Overall movements can be rigid. Active hands but would like to see him add more refined rush moves to his arsenal. Will get too wide on speed rushes with a looping path that creates wasted steps away from the offensive tackles. Could get too aggressive crashing down inside versus the run.

Conclusion

Overall, Tuimoloau is a strong, relentless edge defender who works hard to stop the run and get after the quarterback. His lack of high-end ability as a pass rusher might cause him to be overlooked on early Day 2, but Tuimoloau should be a key piece up front for an NFL defense.
