Strengths

Excellent size and length. Relentless overall play style. Very strong and powerful. Outstanding balance to stay on his feet. Great speed for his size. Hands are quick and strong to shed. Power and pop in his hands to knock offensive tackles off balance. Very strong holding his ground. Will dig in and power a blocker off him. Moves his feet down the line of scrimmage to position himself in the hole. Strong slanting down inside. Tremendous ability to split blockers using strength to get into the backfield. Works to defeat double teams. Attaches at the chest and extends to uproot blockers. Great strength setting the edge. Stays square playing perimeter runs. Very good play recognition as a backside defender. Gives effort to get through blocks in pursuit. Quality hustle to chase the ball. Athleticism and size allow him to cover ground and close in a hurry. Very controlled to make tackles. Aggressive and rangy as a finisher when opponents are close. Experience on both sides of the formation. Used with his hand in the dirt and standing up. Often lines up shaded inside. Gets underneath offensive tackles on power rushes. Very strong using reach as a rusher. Gives high effort to push back offensive linemen getting to the quarterback. Hands are quick and strong swiping down the hands of opponents. Extremely quick swim move. Shows a rip move. Has some early shake. Quick on inside moves. Chips don’t have much of an impact. Effective on interior stunts. Quick reaction time to bat down passes at the line of scrimmage. Experience on short coverage drops with good movement skills and athleticism. Played through an ankle injury that he said had him at 60% health last year.

Weaknesses

Doesn’t really show he can turn the corner with speed and bend. Doesn’t have much of a pure speed rush and sometimes won’t try when it appears usable. Lacks general stop-and-start twitch. Initial burst off the ball is inconsistent. Could be more aggressive into his rush. Would like to see him use rush moves more often. Gets attached to blockers too easily as a rusher. Might come in high as a tackler at times.

Conclusion

Overall, Williams is a strong, high-effort edge defender who has relentlessness both defending the run and getting after the quarterback. He is more of a straight-line power rusher right now, so teams need to determine how much untapped potential there is in passing situations.
