Strengths

Strong and stout build. Excellent change-of-direction skills. Terrific overall burst off the ball. Flashes tremendous quickness to penetrate at the snap. Low off the ball. Very quick side step at the snap. Leans to create leverage and discard blockers. Holds his ground and sheds at the point of attack. Very strong hands to disengage. Great upper body strength to power offensive linemen away from his frame. Very good play recognition. Quick feet to slide in the hole and make a tackle. Wraps up in the hole. Will disengage suddenly to make a tackle in an open rushing lane. Very effective discarding blockers to the side and positioning himself to tackle when going laterally. Gets underneath and will disengage versus offensive tackles trying to pin him inside. Strong and quick to shed in the opposite direction against leverage. Will slant down the line of scrimmage and clog up rushing lanes. Very effective shedding blockers when working laterally. Uses quickness and instincts to shed consecutive blockers as a penetrator. Will use a spin to get back into position for a tackle. Combines athleticism and strength to work in the opposite direction after slanting off the ball. Very good acceleration and speed. Great hustle and range pursuing towards the sideline. Outstanding hustle in pursuit down the field. Smooth getting to the edge on stunts as loops. Quick feet on stunts. Profiles as a three-technique but has experience lining up and rushing right over the center. Saw snaps as a five-technique and big edge more often in 2024. Used to rush from a two-point stance on the interior and the edge. Showed a swim move on the interior. Impressive ability to bend around the corner when he rushes outside. Strong hands and natural feel to finish around the quarterback. Tries to get his hands up as a rusher. Hustles to chase the ball on screen passes. Saw snaps as a fullback and running back on offense. Had a touchdown run as a running back in power formation versus Boston College (2025). Had a touchdown on a direct snap versus Duke (2025).

Weaknesses

Average size. Could be more aggressive getting downhill for a tackle rather than shuffling versus the run. Can get moved off the ball by double teams. Needs to be careful about over pursuing while engaged as a backside defender. Would like to see him unleash and incorporate rip moves as a rusher. Too often gets straight up and almost stalk rushes. Doesn’t generate enough push on power rushes.

Conclusion

Overall, Woods is an athletic, strong, and disruptive interior defender who knows how to create leverage and get off blocks. Developing more power and being more consistent as a rusher is key to reaching his potential as a three-technique for an attacking defense.
