Strengths

Huge frame with tremendous length. Very versatile skillset. Will line up all along the defensive front. Athletic playing as a stand-up edge/rusher at his size. Saw plenty of snaps shaded inside. Lined up in a four-point stance kicked inside. Experience lining up over the A-gap. Routinely changed alignment and stance from play to play. Shows some slipperiness for his size. Very strong disengaging. Very strong on the edge in general. Quick and effective extending with two hands and disengaging. High effort to get through multiple blockers. Aggressive engaging with blockers as a run defender. Moves his feet to get in the hole for tackles. Agile lateral movement at his size. Outstanding play recognition and vision. Pairs his hands and feet to side step and shed blockers off the ball. Impressive quickness and shows a swim move between blockers. Will slant down the line of scrimmage and leverage himself back outside to defend the run. Aggressive and physical working deeper in the trenches. Quick crossing the face of tight ends trying to block him when crashing down. Will discard tight ends in general. Great change-of-direction ability at his size. Lunges to make tackles in the backfield. Will engulf opponents when he gets his hands on them. Tremendous overall pursuit and hustle. Very good speed for a bigger edge. Rangy tackler on outside runs. Excellent tackler as the backside defender. Very effective tackler in space due to size and wingspan. Able to stack and shed on the interior. Gets to quarterbacks in a hurry due to his size. Flashed power when he starts with a speed rush before attacking the frame of opponents. Quality bend around the corner. Quick hands to swat away the reach of blockers while working around them. Showed a dip move off the edge. Good quickness on inside moves. Uses a swim move on inside rushes. Quick reaction time and movement skills to track quarterbacks. Can close fast on the quarterback. Doesn’t give up on rushes. Used on stunts from interior alignment. Gets his hands up with great reach to bat passes down. Experience with short zone drops. Athletic and smooth movement skills in coverage for his size.

Weaknesses

Limited overall twitch and explosiveness as a rusher. Doesn’t really unleash off the ball as a rusher. Would like to see more power/impact on bull rushes. Want to see him add more rush moves both early and to finish. Spin move isn’t very effective right now. Stoned too easily as an interior rusher when he should have the athletic advantage. Needs to avoid early jumps. Can be driven back by double teams when lined up inside.

Conclusion

Overall, Faulk is a big, versatile edge defender who defends the run at a high level and can line up at various spots up front. A more defined role could help him develop as a pass rusher, but teams can immediately count on him to make an impact versus the run while being coached up.
