Strengths
Outstanding overall athleticism. Very effective hand usage in pass protection. Strong hands to halt rushers when he gets to their frame. Strong hands in general as a pass blocker. Able to speed up his feet when rushers get a great jump. Agile footwork in pass protection. Effectively mirrors inside-to-outside rush paths. Shows he can fight back versus power rushes by bigger opponents. Poised sliding inside to handle inside rushes. Impressive pulldown strength combating rushers. Quick feet dealing with spin moves. Shows poise handling stunts. Calmly reads out the rush with no immediate threat. Has no problem squaring up blitzing linebackers with strong hands to stay attached. Quick getting his hands on opponents as a run blocker. Quick working inside at the snap as a run blocker. Uses his hands effectively at both levels on combination blocks. Impressive footwork getting to the second level. Smooth footwork getting over and through the hole as a puller. Impressive footwork on cross-formation pulls to get out in space. Great acceleration. Accurate connecting with defenders in the open field and effectively squares up smaller defenders on the move. Athletic making blocks in space. Experience on the right side for unbalanced lines.
Weaknesses
Inconsistent power as a run blocker. Lacks the desired grit and wipeout power as a run blocker. Bigger defenders can push him into the backfield bowl him over if unprepared off the ball. Base is sometimes out of control and too wide on down blocks. Will lack power to move opponents off the spot. Needs to avoid holding on runs to the edge. Could be more aggressive and forceful through the hole on interior pulls. Doesn’t show a ton of urgency trying to make a block away from the ball. Can have trouble dealing with shake at the top of the rush after speeding his feet up. Sometimes unprepared for shake versus speed rushes in general. Needs to be better dealing with inside rushers off the ball. Feet aren’t as quick sliding versus wider rushes. Can get forward leaning when unable to square up a spin move.

Conclusion
Overall, Lomu is a well-rounded pass protector with impressive hand usage and great footwork on the blindside. However, inconsistent power, grit, and strength in the running game create major concerns about his outlook if he can’t unlock it all at the next level.
