Strengths
Very solid build. Exceptional instincts and play recognition. Very intelligent overall player. Often seems to be the first to react and go. Instinctive breaking on passes as a zone defender. Tremendous instincts to jump routes in robber coverage. Reads the quarterback on throws over the middle in intermediate zone coverage. Quick to read and react in shallower robber coverage. Seeks routes to jump in middle of the field. Terrific ball skills jumping routes. Soft hands in general. Above-average speed when he gets going. Very quick reacting to and covering underneath routes from deeper alignment. Very quick to cover the flats as a middle safety. Experience playing man coverage from deeper alignment. Tremendous ability to read and react to corner routes. Good ability to stick with wheel routes. Outstanding getting a hand in at the catch point on underneath passes. Great accuracy with the opportunity to deliver a big hit after the catch. Aggressive throwing his body in to deliver a hit at the catch point. Accurate and physical laying a huge hit across the middle. Keeps the target area low when delivering a crushing hit. Aggressive getting downhill in run support. Controlled in run support as a deep safety. Filters into position for tackles on the second level. Light feet and aggressive getting to the ball. Wraps up as a tackler. Sticks his nose in to tackle in the box. Quick to shoot a gap as a run blitzer. Excellent pursuit coming off the edge and tracking down ball-carriers. Terrific play recognition defending outside runs. Fast and accurate in sideline pursuit. Quick to break down and tackle in pursuit towards the sideline. Fights through blocks in space. Tries to brush off offensive linemen while keeping his eyes on the ball in pursuit. Quick to locate the ball at the mesh point. Looks to punch the ball out on tackles. Good speed as a blitzer up the middle from the intermediate level. Experience blitzing when aligned along the line of scrimmage.
Weaknesses
Average burst and range as a deep safety. Takes some false steps reacting and transitioning in deep zone coverage. Cover transitions can be slower when reacting to change direction. Inconsistent reacting in man coverage. Can fall a step behind on inside releases in press coverage. Allows too much separation on over routes in general. Feet aren’t as quick sticking with opponents in man coverage further down the field. Has some misses trying to hit at the catch point with receivers catching in stride at high speed. Can have trouble tackling quicker receivers after the catch when broken down. Seems to lack impact power as a wrap-up tackler. Lowers his eyes at time trying to get low for a head-on tackle. Quicker ball-carrier moves can evade him.

Conclusion
Overall, Haulcy is a very instinctive and intelligent safety who is at his best as a playmaker in intermediate zone coverage. For teams that miss out on Caleb Downs, he is a great fallback option as a player who similarly provides versatility and often seems to react quicker than everyone else.
