Strengths

Tremendous overall athlete. Very fast running over routes. Great feel for working vertically over the middle of the field with a defender shaded underneath. Has a feel for throttling down vertical routes to not run into over-the-top coverage. Terrific build-up speed on vertical routes. Smooth with ideal speed/pacing on corner and post routes. Very soft hands. Impressive ability to snatch the ball in the air and guide it away from a defender. Excellent speed on wheel routes. Deceptive selling a block on fake screens and turning it up into a wheel route. Shows quickness and smoothness using shake on underneath routes. Exceptional feel for settling against the leverage of coverage in scoring territory. Tremendous acceleration after the catch. Highly effective and experienced as an in-line blocker. Great overall technique as a blocker. Blocks with a wide base and accurate hands. Excellent strength as a blocker. Very strong hands to attach and finish. Engages off the ball and will create a seal on the edge. Kicks out opponents on the edge. Can drive opponents out towards the sideline on outside runs. Outstanding accuracy and drive as a blocker in space. Stays in front of opponents while driving. Very effective blocking on outside screens. Will drive opponents out of bounds blocking on the perimeter. Seals down opponents working inside on runs to the edge. Very effective connecting with linebackers coming downhill. Shows power to take down opponents on double teams. Very comfortable both as an in-line blocker and blocking from split alignment. Used as a lead blocker lined up in the backfield. Does a great job moving his feet as a pass blocker. Patient in pass protection.

Weaknesses

Average catch radius and length for his size. Saw limited involvement as a receiver at Georgia and was sometimes off the field for teammate Lawson Luckie (including for passing situation in scoring territory). Could be better holding onto passes when taking a hit down the field. Needs to do a better job settling on drag routes versus zone coverage. Can get discarded by bigger and more powerful edge defenders at the point of attack. Would like to see him identify an earlier threat to take as a blocker when on the move. Lacks accuracy and impact on movement blocks versus bigger opponents.

Conclusion

Overall, Delp is a well-rounded tight end with high upside based on his combination of athleticism and blocking ability. Despite limited production at Georgia, he has the skillset to be much more involved and dangerous in an NFL offense.
