Strengths

Strong and thick build. Soft hands and catches the ball away from his body. Comfortable making body catches. Smoothly catches the ball in stride on slants and in-breaking routes from the slot. Smooth and deceptive on out routes from the slot. Crisp cutting on corner routes. Effective extending for throws out in front of him towards the sideline. Impressive burst at the top of routes to reaccelerate after throttling down. Has the speed to run away from cornerbacks on crossing routes. Very effective on deep posts from the slot. Very good footwork versus press coverage to separate on his release. Knows how to get on top of cornerbacks running vertical routes from the slot. Deceptive slant-and-go double move from the perimeter. Tracks and catches the ball cleanly over the shoulder. Impressive ability to leap for downfield grabs in traffic. Terrific overall body control playing the ball in the air. Tremendous feel and pacing running through zone coverage working vertically. Courageous going up for high-point grabs between the numbers. Shows a connection with the quarterback settling at the intermediate level. Quick eyes and hands after getting his head around on stop routes. Great acceleration after the catch on hitches. Used on bubble screens and various designed touches. Very good vision on inside screens. Strong and quick making the first defender miss. Phenomenal balance with the ball in his hands. Excellent strength as a runner and never goes down easily. Has would-be tacklers bounce off him. Extremely elusive. Outstanding stop-and-start burst as a runner. Strong stiff arm. Great balance to stay in bounds running down the sideline. Physical lowering his shoulder to finish runs. Strong hands latching on and staying attached as a blocker. Showed quality pop as a blocker versus moving linebackers. Made clutch game-winning touchdown catch versus Penn State where he got his feet down in the back of the end zone (2025).

Weaknesses

Needs to be better and more crisp running routes when rolling up onto a defender with a cushion. Not as deceptive facing a cushion. Inconsistent overall explosiveness out of breaks. Can be more polished and urgent versus bracket coverage. Rerouted by contact from linebackers early in routes. Not as effective bringing in passes on his back hip. Could be better crossing the face of opponents blocking inside.

Conclusion

Overall, Cooper is a strong, skilled, and versatile weapon who can make plays on the ball and do major damage as a runner. He best projects as a Z receiver with heavy slot usage for an NFL offense.
