Strengths

Good overall size/build. Extremely confident and competitive. Very strong hands to jam at the line of scrimmage. Plays with great overall physicality in coverage. Hands are accurate breaking up passes at the catch point. Tremendous instincts and can read the quarterback’s eyes. Plus speed for his size. Quality burst/acceleration to break on the ball. Fluid hips to turn quickly. Impressive ball skills and production. Effective at Seattle-style takedowns when making a one-on-one tackle. Has the strength to successfully shed blocks. Mostly played left cornerback in 2019 but has plenty of experience on both sides. Has been used to matchup against opposing tight ends.

Weaknesses

Natural stickiness is just average. Can get grabby at the top of routes. Would like to see better backpedal technique in cushion coverage. Allows receivers behind him too often. Needs to locate the ball better downfield. Doesn’t seem eager to get in on gang tackles near his area.

Conclusion

Overall, Johnson is a confident cornerback that plays bigger than his measurements and is at best when being utilized in press coverage. In a strong draft class, he is worth targeting the middle of Day 2 and will ideally land in an aggressive defensive scheme.
