Strengths

Positional versatility. Solid build with plus strength. Long arms despite shorter overall frame. Knows how to maximize length as a pass rusher. Very active hands. Does an excellent job using length/hands when he captures the edge. Has shown an ability to time the snap count. Quality tackler. Plays with physicality. Works hard to get off blocks. Sets the edge in the running game. Can shed a block and make the tackle against the run. Great play recognition in coverage as an edge defender. Good functional athleticism and hands. Gets up to deflect passes at the line of scrimmage. Can line up on either side of the formation and in a variety of gaps as a stand-up rusher. Faced top competition for multiple years in the SEC.

Weaknesses

Lacks ideal speed and explosiveness. Doesn’t have great bend on the edge. Stiff when changing direction. Would like him to be more dynamic at his size. Doesn’t have a signature move and needs to consistently win with technique. Plays hard but lacks pursuit in space.

Conclusion

Overall, Jennings may never be a league-leading sack artist, but he has enough positive traits to feel confident about as a significant defensive piece at the next level. Although some have suggested a transition to becoming a full-time off-ball linebacker, I think Jennings’ best value will come on the edge in a 3-4 defense.
