Strengths

Athletic frame. Good overall size. Very smooth all-around athlete. Prototype zone blocker. Times his strikes accurately to make up for not having top-tier length. Exceptional mobility and movement skills. Excellent awareness in pass protection. Technically sound as a pass blocker. Keeps a balanced base. Hands stay ready to strike. Moves his feet very well to mirror rushers. Easily carries rushers past the quarterback. Quick to bury a defender if given a chance. Comfortable as a lead blocker in space. Plus field vision. Great acceleration as a puller. Effective as a double-team blocker in the running game. Efficient working to the second level. Former basketball player and it shows. High character and leadership.

Weaknesses

Power/strength is just average. Doesn’t generate a ton of drive as a run blocker. Needs to clean up footwork in pass sets to eliminate false step with his right foot.

Conclusion

Overall, Jones is a mobile offensive tackle that has natural mirror skills in pass protection and should be able to make a big impact as an athletic run blocker in a zone scheme. He will be a better value early on Day 2, but I don’t think it would be a reach for a team like the Vikings to take him in the first round because of the potential scheme fit.
