Strengths

Extremely smooth overall receiver. Quality size/build. Exceptional play strength and balance. Tremendous body control. Excellent ball skills. Elite ability to get feet down along the boundary. Impressive build-up speed to consistently get behind the defense. Tracks the deep ball at a high level. Good ability to stack cornerbacks and get vertical. Great overall route runner. Stays low in and out of breaks and sells his routes. Has the burst to create sudden separation. Plus acceleration and quickness. Will use his hands to create subtle space at the catch point. Deceptive on double moves. Effective high-pointing the ball. Intelligent and aware. Hands catcher but comfortable securing the ball to his body in traffic. Smooth catching the ball on short post routes. Elusive and brings some physicality with the ball in his hands. Plays with clear confidence and competitiveness. Very good blocker.

 

Weaknesses

Just one season as a significant offensive contributor. Could be more efficient beating press jams. Rarely played the slot and didn’t produce much when he did (but seems to have the skillset to play there).

Conclusion

Overall, Powell is a very smooth receiver that simply knows how to win by getting vertical or creating space as a route runner. He mostly produced along the boundary at Clemson, but Powell could have an NFL path similar to Terry McLaurin as a primary deep threat that turns into an all-around target.
