Strengths
Elite size and phenomenal length. Tremendous overall athleticism. Remarkable strength. Good speed for a big cornerback. Highly confident and competitive. Shows promise in terms of play recognition and instincts as a zone defender. Most comfortable with his eyes on the quarterback. Fast retreating from the backpedal in zone coverage. Has the skillset to overwhelm if used more in press coverage. Jams can be extremely physical and disruptive. Length and speed allow him to recover when beaten. Reach allows him to get his hand in to breakup passes at the catch point. Great leaping ability. Excellent ball skills. Willing to fly up to chop down opponents on the outside. Very reliable tackling when able to be the aggressor. Uses his hands and strength to disengage from blocks. Shows physicality taking on blocks from offensive linemen. Tough when lined up at the end of the line of scrimmage with no wide receivers on his side of the field. Has experience on both sides of the formation.
Weaknesses
Slow to open his hips and will fall a step behind covering vertical routes. Will get stacked and lose his footing downfield. Reaction time is slow in general. Susceptible to double moves. Delayed reacting to drag routes and slants. Can get grabby with the ball in the air. Inconsistent locating the ball downfield. Would like to see better assignment discipline. Needs to clean up tackling technique and often finds himself on the worse end of a hit despite getting the job done. Needs to avoid floating inside and allowing runs to the perimeter. Beaten deep by TCU wide receiver Quentin Johnston at least a handful of times in two matchups resulting in long receptions and pass inference penalties (2022).

Conclusion
Overall, Brents is a big, athletic cornerback that clearly fits best in a zone-heavy scheme where he can keep everything in front of him. The potential flaws are significant, but Brents has high-level traits to develop under a coaching staff that will allow him to play to his strengths.
