Strengths

Solid overall size with plus length. Excellent technique mirroring vertical routes out of press coverage. Extremely effective playing outside releases. Uses the sideline to his advantage defending vertical routes along the boundary. Will bump receivers out of bounds. Very comfortable shading underneath while looking at the receiver to match routes from the press. Quick feet coming out of the press at his size. Very combative in coverage and through the catch point. Accurate getting a hand in to break up passes. Able to swat away attempted high-point catches by bigger opponents. Exceptional strength. Jams are extremely physical and disruptive. Tremendous patience versus quicker releases. Very good agility. Quick reaction time breaking on slant routes. Good feel for passing off routes in underneath zone coverage. Terrific awareness as a zone defender in general. Rangy in the side shuffle. Great top speed and recovery speed. Good ball skills and will attack the ball in the air down the field. Played both right and left cornerback. Has seen man coverage snaps in the slot. Size and experience defending tight ends in man coverage. Stays square and ready to defend the run as the backside cornerback. Very good tackler on the edge with reliability when he wraps up. Has shown he will take on ball-carriers in the hole.

Weaknesses

Slower reacting to route runners and will lose his footing in cushion coverage. Delayed transitioning vertical routes and will allow a step from off coverage. Gets flat-footed and allows receivers to get behind him. Can have more coordination sticking to route breaks. Could be more cognizant of deep responsibility for crossing routes coming from the opposite side of the field. Too often tackles low and lowers his eyes. Will come in high and not strike through ball-carriers. Should be more consistently aggressive getting in on tackles at his size. Needs to be stronger taking on and defeating blocks. Inconsistent play recognition versus the run.

Conclusion

Overall, Amos is a physical perimeter cornerback with an ability to play the press at a high level in both zone and man coverage. He needs to be better keeping everything in front of him as he gets further away from the ball, but Amos should be a fit in the second round for teams that will allow him to get in the face of opponents.
