Strengths
Stout build with a low center of gravity. Creates easy leverage off the ball. High intensity and a tone-setting player. Extremely quick hands to shed at the snap. Quick feet to evade blockers at the snap. Tremendous play recognition. Excellent ability to shed and tackle. Great pop in his hands. Strong and quick to disengage. Outstanding strength to extend at the snap and prevent blockers from attaching. Great hand placement and extension strength getting underneath blockers. Very strong hands to latch on and discard bigger blockers. Warrants double teams versus the run. Able to rebalance himself when chipped off the spot. Shows he can disengage late when driven back. Effective spin move to get off a block. Tackles ball-carriers with aggression. Athletic to get in on tackles away from him. Tremendous effort in pursuit to the edge. Terrific overall hustle and reaction time to chase the ball. Exceptional speed and acceleration for a defensive lineman. Often played nose tackle but has the skillset to be a three-technique. Shows burst to pursue the quarterback. Jolting power to knock centers back as a rusher. Has flashed extreme power on strikes. Shoved the center back into the quarterback versus Michigan (2024). Strong with great hand placement to walk back blockers as a rusher. Quick feet to capitalize on hand fighting as a rusher. Impressive explosiveness trying to split blockers. Good quickness on stunts. Relentless in pursuit of the quarterback.
Weaknesses
Undersized in terms of height and length. Some tackle attempts are just out of reach due to limited length. Inconsistent pad level and can get uprooted. Can be moved off the ball if he doesn’t win early. Gets moved too easily when blocked from the side when slanting. Shows stiffness in general getting attacked from the side. Would like to see him keep his shoulders square working up the field. Will sometimes guess based on blocking rather than diagnosing when seeing a puller. Could have more fluidity and bend to get past opponents when he gets a step as a rusher. Would like to see him capitalize more consistently on early jolts as a rusher. Can be stoned by double teams that effectively work in tandem.

Conclusion
Overall, West is a tough-nosed defensive lineman who can both get into the backfield and hold his ground to create havoc inside. He projects to be a solid piece for a defensive front with the skillset and strength to fill multiple roles on the interior.
