Strengths

Prototype overall size. Exceptional length. Plays with outstanding overall effort. Tremendous strength. Powerful hands on impact and staying attached when grabbing opponents. Excellent fundamentals as a run defender. Square and strong setting the edge. Will use one arm to extend and force runs inside by holding the edge. Terrific strength taking on blockers. Consistently extends to keep blockers off his frame. Will overpower tight ends. Works to get off blocks. Uses spins to get off blocks. Flashed quickness to split blockers and get into the backfield. Very patient with great technique as a backside defender. Square and wide shuffling down the line of scrimmage while reading things out as the backside defender. Very aggressive going inside to make tackles. Aggressive hand usage when shaded inside. Sets the edge or gets into the backfield before giving effort to work inside and/or downfield in pursuit. Overall, Oben is a strong, high-effort edge defender with great technique as a run defender and an assortment of moves as a rusher. If he can reunlock the ability shown at Duke in terms of quickness and speed at his size, Oben can be a steal.
