Strengths

Prototype overall size with a muscular build. Tremendous strength and power. Terrific speed. Squares his shoulders and is quick to accelerate to get downhill. Keeps his legs moving to accelerate through tacklers and gets back to top speed in a hurry. Gets skinny while accelerating downhill. Will use a shoulder dip to avoid tacklers through the line of scrimmage. Routinely trucks into linebackers on the second level. Powerful breaking tackles when he gets going. Will lower his shoulder and have defenders bounce off him. Excellent cutback vision and feel. Sticks his foot in the ground and gets downhill when he sees a crease on outside runs. Fast with good recognition of opportunities to bounce runs to the edge. Smooth accelerating and turning upfield to get down the sideline. Great balance down the sideline. Excellent stop-and-start elusiveness in the open field for a bigger back. Controlled and elusive to throttle down and reaccelerate. Effective on quick tosses and will find a hole to run through. Has defenders that don’t wrap bounce off him. Powers into contact and falls forward for additional yardage. Very strong to carry defenders before going down. Athletic to slide/lunge forward to get extra yards with nowhere to go. Switches the ball to the outside hand on runs towards the perimeter. Has experience in the wildcat. Used on plenty of draw plays and in the screen game. Extremely soft hands out of the backfield. Shows smoothness and quickness on short route cuts. Saw snaps lined up out wide and in the slot. Very strong and squares up opponents in pass protection. Stands in and will attach as a pass blocker. Strong attaching when used as a lead blocker.

Weaknesses

Would like for him to see things and just go at times. Burst and decisiveness in the backfield can be inconsistent. Will seem to have a chance for a long run through the hole and doesn’t unleash the explosiveness/speed combination to capitalize. Aggressive defenders can cause him to lose sight of a clearer path. Sometimes will run into contact rather than trying to push further towards the sideline when the opportunity is there.

Conclusion

Overall, Hampton is a powerful, downhill runner with a great combination of speed, physicality, and elusiveness. He fits as a between-the-tackles hammer for an NFL offense and an intriguing option for shotgun-heavy, spread attacks to take advantage of lighter boxes.
