Strengths

Large build but relatively compact and athletic. Quick overall reaction time. Lines up low and stays low off the ball. Quick off the ball to penetrate and avoid being squared up by down blocks. Big and strong bringing down ball-carriers. Tackles with force. Makes excellent form tackles in the backfield. Very strong wrapping up on runs up the middle after getting in the backfield. Quick into the backfield if unblocked. Will strike and swim between blockers at the snap. Good strength and quickness combination to force his way through blockers into the backfield. Hands are very strong on impact. Gets underneath opponents off the ball. Strong hands with quickness to shed laterally. Effective seeing the ball and disengaging laterally when squared up. Powerful to push centers into the backfield at the snap to blow plays up. Has blown back the center in short-yardage situations. Controls the center down the line of scrimmage to disrupt runs to the edge. Good range working down the line of scrimmage to tackle on outside runs. Tires working the opposite direction to pursue runs after slanting outside. Can free himself with a spin if he turns his back to the ball. Able to anchor late and hold positioning to end the momentum by double teams. Great pursuit. Impressive ability to close in space at his size. Will deliver a big hit if given the chance. Aggressive coming in on gang tackles and will put an end to the pile. Shows an edge through the end of the play. Often used as a nose tackle but can play three-technique. Very effective spin move over the center as a rusher. Has some nimbleness to steer himself getting after the passer. Great extension power to get blockers off him as a rusher. Tremendous awareness and play recognition on screens and in coverage. Will recognize and blow up screen passes. Has experience with short zone drops. Hustles to pursue the ball in space after completions.

Weaknesses

Would like him to stay square more consistently to prevent getting turned inside. Plays with an inconsistent base defending the run. Would like to see him have his shoulders more square when slanting. Can get pushed off the spot by double teams. The second blocker on double teams can drive him laterally. Out of control too often as a rusher trying to generate pressure. Halted as a rusher if he doesn’t get through a crease early or faces a double team.

Conclusion

Overall, Orange is a big, strong defensive lineman with an ability to blow up plays and tackle in the backfield. To reach his potential, there are some things to clean up with his technique and strides needed to become more of a factor on passing downs.
