Strengths

Tremendous size. Terrific overall athleticism. Smooth and deceptive on downfield routes. Doesn’t tip his hand with head or body movements before making downfield cuts. Fast and smooth on post routes. Very deceptive on hitch-and-go routes. Tracks the ball very well down the field. Great hands on over-the-shoulder catches. Will extend over the shoulder and get his feet down on downfield throws that pull him towards the sideline. Very fluid on back-shoulder fades from the slot. Ideal patience on outside release versus the press to set up cornerbacks. Shows he can snap off downfield routes to separate versus close man coverage. Soft hands and catches the ball cleanly. Excellent catch focus and secures the ball before taking a hit. Excellent fluidity and shake to separate on slants. Separates off the ball in general on inside releases. Very smooth on quick out routes. Big target at the intermediate level with a big catch radius. Tremendous ability to contort his body and make a high-point grab over a defender. Crisp on short post cuts. Very crisp on corner routes. Quick feet at his size throttling down on deep curl routes and hitches. Knows how to settle between zone coverage on stop routes. Fast working across the field on crossing routes. Will smoothly turn crossing routes up the field when not open after running across the field. Settles when facing zone coverage on drag routes. Able to dive to secure throws across the middle. Effective going to the ground for a sliding grab further down the field. Tremendous understanding of when he’s open and presents a target on scrambles. Has experience in the slot. Excellent speed running vertical routes from the slot. Showed he can cross over defenders on corner routes from the slot. Great pacing running wheel routes on fake screens. Rare usage in varied alignments for a bigger receiver. Often used in motion from various receiver alignments. Has experience lining up in the backfield and going in motion. Saw snaps in creative heavy personnel in the backfield as a running back and with his hand in the ground as an in-line tight end. Targeted on perimeter screens. Very good vision with the ball in his hands. Strong with elusiveness breaking the first tackle after the catch. Able to break arm tackles. Will secure the ball with two hands while getting tackled. Ideal length and strength as a blocker. Gives effort to engage as a blocker on the perimeter. Hustles to follow the action after the catch. Shows excitement for team success even when getting blown out.

Weaknesses

Limited career production and bounced around to three schools. Disrupted and slowed by contact too easily as a route runner when checked by zone defenders. Inconsistent stacking opponents on vertical routes from the perimeter for his size and skillset. Average acceleration after the catch and after making a ball-carrier move.

Conclusion

Overall, Sturdivant is a very athletic wide receiver with impressive smoothness and versatility at his size. Despite never really being featured for an extended stretch in his college career, there should be untapped potential based on his skillset.
