We’re through one week of the 2025 NFL league year. There’s still a long offseason to go, but these are a handful of teams that have had a very good—and perhaps undervalued—several days. This is in terms of player transactions, so I’m not taking into account coaching moves I liked such as Ben Johnson to the Bears and the Raiders’ new coaching staff.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles lost defensive tackle Milton Williams and edge defender Josh Sweat (free agency) and safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson (trade with the Texans)—as well as losing Brandon Graham to retirement—but I like what they’re doing to re-load this offseason. All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun was extended, and the team added two more edge rushers in Joshua Uche and Azeez Ojulari. Uche and Ojulari bring plenty of upside in a rotation that includes Nolan Smith Jr., Jalyx Hunt, and—though he ultimately might not be a fit in Vic Fangio’s defense—2024 big-ticket signing Bryce Huff. Getting guard Kenyon Green in the CJGJ trade was intriguing, too, with offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland getting to work with the former first-rounder. And running back AJ Dillon might have been overlooked in free agency given that he missed last year with neck injury.
Philadelphia was already strong and deep throughout the roster, and they appear to be in an excellent spot with the draft approaching.
Buffalo Bills
The Bills extended a few of their own guys on long-term deals and brought back cornerback Dane Jackson after he was with the Panthers in 2024. Though both facing six-game suspensions, Larry Ogunjobi and Michael Hoecht bring some depth up front—but I really love the move to get former Chargers star Joey Bosa to rush the passer. Injuries are the concern, but Bosa sounds determined and is someone who can finish in key situations if he stays healthy. Buffalo also added receiver Joshua Palmer from LA, and I like how he slots in on offense as someone that’ll block and has had some big games as a receiver.
Denver Broncos
The X post from tight end Evan Engram after he signed with the Broncos says a lot:

Sean Payton had been wanting to get a “joker” on offense to create mismatches, and Engram—a former first-round pick of the Giants who caught 114 passes a couple of seasons ago with the Jaguars—could be that guy. Trent Sherfield was a nice depth signing at receiver, too. And in addition to re-signing defensive tackle D.J. Jones, the two huge signings on defense were both from the 49ers: linebacker Dre Greenlaw and safety Talanoa Hufanga. Greenlaw and Hufanga are going to bring an extra attitude and an edge to the Denver defense. I’m interested to see what the Broncos do in the draft, but the selective aggressiveness in free agency appears wise.
Los Angeles Chargers
Cornerback Donte Jackson joins impressive second-year players Cam Hart and Tarheeb Still in the secondary, but I want to focus on what the Chargers did on offense. Mike Williams had an odd season away from Los Angeles last year, but he’s back and has tremendous chemistry and upside with quarterback Justin Herbert as a very underrated big-play threat. Former first-round pick Mekhi Becton got his career firmly on track after a championship season with the Eagles, and he’ll help pave the way for new running back Najee Harris—another underrated player who received unfair criticism, perhaps stemming from fantasy players expecting bigger production. But Najee was a steady performer with the Steelers, and he’s an excellent fit for Jim Harbaugh with the potential to take the next step after four straight 1,000-yard campaigns to begin his career.
Los Angeles Rams
While it felt kind of messed up the way the Rams released former Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp, the signing of fellow All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams was a fantastic move. Despite the success the Kupp-Nacua combo had over the past couple of years when on the field together, Adams feels like a better stylistic fit as a duo with Puka Nacua. On defense, defensive tackle Poona Ford has long been underrated and brings more heft on the interior. The Rams came closer than anyone to beating the Eagles last postseason, and they should be dangerous in 2025.
