With the first Sunday of the 2024 NFL season just under three weeks away, YouTube TV announced new features for its second season of NFL Sunday Ticket. The headliner is the addition of a customizable Multiview, giving users more control over the games they can watch at one time.
Last season, there were many game combination options for Multiview, but there weren’t enough. For example, if you had a few television screens set up at once, there were times when the Multiview combinations—despite a plethora of them—did not sync up to let you watch all the games at once.
That was further complicated by Multiview being capped at four games and not allowing you to view games on local cable (Sunday Ticket, which could show eight games at once, also allowed you to see local games on its Game Mix).
YouTube TV’s announcement, states in part:
NFL Sunday Ticket subscribers will be able to build any available combination of two, three, or four NFL Sunday Ticket games. YouTube TV Base Plan members will also have the option to find their preferred multiview streams with their local NFL games via select stations.
So, it also sounds like YouTube TV subscribers (not Sunday Ticket only purchasers) can have a Multiview that includes the local games, too.
But for those watching on multiple televisions, or just wanting complete control over the games in Multiview—including the number of games (perhaps you are only interested in watching two or three games on your screen instead of the maximum of four)—customizable Multiview is an awesome addition.
Let’s say you have three TV screens set up in your viewing area. You can now ensure you’ll be able to select 12 different games to be shown via Multiview after it was limited to the Multiview combinations they offered last season.
The other big addition announced is a Fantasy View that now includes Yahoo fantasy league sync in addition to NFL Fantasy. Basically, you can easily check your matchup score and how your players are doing right in Sunday Ticket.
Overall, the cost ($479/year without YouTube TV, and currently $72.99/month for YouTube TV subscribers) is a bit much for some. We’ve had the Sunday Ticket lawsuit that the NFL had overturned by a federal judge. For this year, hopefully there is a promo or discount at some point for people that want to sign up for Sunday Ticket only.
NFL Sunday Ticket is available from YouTube TV.
