YouTube Video: How Sean Payton Unlocks Jaylen Waddle

The most expensive trade for an offensive player during the 2026 NFL offseason was the Broncos acquiring wide receiver Jaylen Waddle from the Dolphins for essentially a first- and a third-round pick. The latest YouTube video from Wolf Sports dives into why the dynamic weapon is a great fit with Sean Payton in Denver.

The Brandin Cooks comp

If you go back and watch how Sean Payton deployed his former first-round receiver Brandin Cooks with the Saints, it gives an idea of how the Broncos might utilize Waddle. Though both players are relatively undersized, they go up in traffic and can win in a variety of ways. However, the former Alabama star might be even more explosive than Cooks.

Unlocking Bo Nix’s arm

Broncos quarterback Bo Nix has an underrated laser arm, and he might be able to showcase it more with Waddle in the mix. Waddle is one of the NFL’s fastest receivers who can both stretch the defense to open things up for everyone else—and be on the receiving end of touchdown bombs from his new quarterback.

The culture fit

Finally, Waddle has already said he doesn’t think the team has a No. 1 receiver—stating that the most important thing is winning games. He’s great friends with Broncos Defensive Player of the Year cornerback Patrick Surtain II from their time together with the Crimson Tide, and he should fit seamlessly with the Denver receiving corps and offense overall.

The addition of Waddle is set to decrease the degree of difficulty for the Broncos offense, with an additional threat on the outside and likely more quick touchdowns from the unit in 2026.
