A big blow was delivered to the NFL’s remaining four potential Super Bowl LX matchups over the weekend when the Broncos won but lost superstar quarterback Bo Nix to a fractured ankle. The latest Wolf Sports YouTube video ranks the four possible matchups for the Big Game between the Broncos, Seahawks, Patriots, and Rams.
The Bo Nix Injury
First, it’s sickening that Nix fractured his ankle and is out for the postseason after the game he had in the Divisional Round win over the Bills. You never know how many chances to get for a championship, and Nix had a very realistic shot to win it all in Year 2. Now, the Broncos face a bigger challenge with Jarrett Stidham taking over at quarterback for his first action in a couple of years.
No. 4: Broncos vs. Rams
Anything can happen any given Sunday. But it might just be tough for the Broncos—without not only Nix but much less firepower than the Rams have—to keep up offensively with Matthew Stafford being able to throw to Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, those tight ends, depth at receiver, and working off the ground game. Denver’s defense would probably need to get home for sacks and turnovers to keep them in it, but it’s no mistake that the Broncos beating the Rams is the lowest probable result according to the oddsmakers.
No. 3: Patriots vs. Seahawks
Again, anything can happen in a game. Overall, Pats-Seahawks feels like it could be the sloppiest most turnover-filled game of the four, which is not what fans want to see. The Seattle defense can force Drake Maye into turnovers, while New England’s underrated unit can do the same to Sam Darnold on the other side.
No. 2: Patriots vs. Rams
This is probably the top choice for a lot of people, but Patriots-Rams comes in at No. 2 among top Super Bowl LX matchups. Stafford and Maye are going to finish in the top two in the MVP voting. It’s LA vs. Boston. But many sports fans are tied of how much Boston and LA win, and this matchup is the most recent one we saw in the Super Bowl among these possibilities. That said, it’d likely be a well played game with what you have on both sides with coaches like Sean McVay, Mike Vrabel, and Josh McDaniels. The Pats cornerback group of Christian Gonzalez, Carlton Davis, and Marcus Jones trying to contain that Los Angeles passing attack would be fun. And the Rams defense would not be a bad matchup for Maye and McDaniel to try to exploit. It’d probably be an unpredictable and down-to-the-wire game.
No. 1: Broncos vs. Rams
You remember Super Bowl XLVIII, when the Seahawks led by the Legion of Boom and Russell Wilson put a 43-8 drubbing on the high-flying Peyton Manning-led Broncos. This would be over a decade later, but it’d be an opportunity to get over that loss for the Broncos franchise—and to do it in a crazy underdog manner with a backup quarterback. The Denver offense against the Seattle defense would be the biggest mismatch remaining of the four teams. However, the Broncos defense would want to show what they’re about and can try to be the best unit in the game while trying to play the ultimate underdog card.
