WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Washington activated Antonio Gibson from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Gibson missed one game while on the COVID list, but he's back for the regular season finale this Sunday against the Giants. While Gibson has been banged up this season, we expect he'll play in Week 18. The second-year running back is 109 yards away from 1,000 rushing yards on the year.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Antonio Gibson has been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Gibson will miss Sunday's game against the Eagles as Washington tries to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, so rookie Jaret Patterson could be set to start in the backfield. Patterson is a definite plug-and-play option for those in need of help at running back, but he's more of a FLEX than RB2, and the floor is low versus a Philly defense that held Gibson in check a couple of weeks ago.

Antonio Gibson (toe) is officially active for Week 16.

Gibson was said to be a game-time decision, but he’s good to go—though it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him have less than a workhorse role. While we are anticipating him being more of a low-end RB2 at less than 100%, Gibson can still come through for fantasy owners in what is close to a must-win for Washington.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Antonio Gibson (shin) is officially active for Week 7.

Gibson continues to be listed as questionable at less than 100%, but he continues to play for Washington. The team has said that they basically prepare Gibson during the week so that he can have his normal workload on gameday. You can again insert the second-year back into fantasy lineups.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Antonio Gibson (shin) is officially active for Week 5.

Gibson revealed that he’s dealing with stress fracture in in shin, but he’s been playing through it and will continue to do so today against the Saints.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Antonio Gibson (shin) is questionable for Week 5.

The expectation is that Gibson will play, but Washington fortunately plays early on Sunday if he turns out to be inactive. Either way, J.D. McKissic could have an expanded role with Dyami Brown (knee) and Logan Thomas (hamstring) out.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Antonio Gibson (shin) is officially active for Week 4.

The shin issue didn’t seem like a big concern for Gibson, and he’s officially ready to go today against the Falcons.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Antonio Gibson (shin) is officially listed as questionable for Week 4.

We would think Gibson will be ready to go for Sunday against the Falcons, but it's worth noting that the injury did pop up in middle of the week, as Gibson sat out yesterday's practice before returning on a limited basis today. Gibson's active/inactive status will be set by Sunday morning.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Antonio Gibson (toe) is questionable for Saturday.

Gibson has been playing through the toe injury and is fully expected to again as Washington hopes to upset Tampa Bay. Especially in full PPR scoring formats, J.D. McKissic might be the better DFS option against a stout defensive front.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Antonio Gibson (toe) is officially active for Week 16.

After missing the past two games with the toe injury suffered in Week 13, Gibson is back and is expected to get a heavy workload versus the Panthers as Washington looks to clinch the NFC East today. Gibson should be in fantasy lineups.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Antonio Gibson (toe) is officially listed as questionable for Week 16.

Gibson is looking like a game-time decision for Sunday against the Panthers, but there's optimism about his status after his practice activity was ramped up during the week. Washington doesn't kickoff until the late-afternoon window on Sunday, so be sure to have a backup plan if you want to use the rookie runner with fantasy titles on the line.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Antonio Gibson (toe) is officially inactive for Washington.

Gibson was listed as doubtful entering the weekend, so this was the expectation. This is Gibson’s second consecutive missed game, and J.D. McKissic and Peyton Barber will lead the Washington backfield  against Seattle.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Antonio Gibson (toe) is doubtful for Week 15.

Gibson is expected to miss another game, and he should be considered highly questionable for Week 16, too. Look for J.D. McKissic and Peyton Barber to lead the backfield on Sunday, but McKissic in particular gets a slight downgrade in terms of floor with Alex Smith (calf) ruled out.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Antonio Gibson (toe) has been ruled out for Week 14.

You could probably say that Gibson not being ruled out earlier in the week at least gives him a decent chance to play next week, but it would be far from a guarantee. J.D. McKissic and Peyton Barber will lead the backfield on Sunday in a difficult matchup versus San Francisco, with the former being the preferred option as an important target underneath for Alex Smith.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Antonio Gibson is dealing with turf toe.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says Gibson is dealing with "a painful case of turf toe, which may knock him out for Sunday" against the 49ers. This isn't a surprise after Gibson had to leave Monday evening's game early and looked to be in clear pain and discomfort. We'll update you if Gibson is able to get on the practice field at some point this week, but look for J.D. McKissic to lead the Washington backfield for Week 14, with Peyton Barber mixing in on short yardage and goal-line situations in particular.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Antonio Gibson (toe) is officially doubtful to return for Washington.

It looked like it may have been an ankle injury for Gibson, and we expected he'd soon be back for Washington after hobbling off earlier in the first quarter. But unfortunately, it looks like more of a serious issue that will likely keep Gibson out for the rest of this evening's game. Before leaving, Gibson had two carries for 14 yards. Now we have to hope this isn't something that'll keep the dynamic rookie runner out for much longer than today, but it's not a great sign that he's being called doubtful to return this early in the game.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Antonio Gibson (shoulder) was officially a full participant in today's practice.

There was concern when Gibson missed yesterday's practice, but it appears that the rookie running back will be good to go this Sunday against the Lions. We'll see if Gibson can take advantage of a very good matchup on paper for Week 10.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Antonio Gibson (shoulder) officially did not practice today.

This probably partly explains Gibson's usage last week, and now his Week 10 status is in doubt after missing the first practice of the week. We'll track Gibson's practice activity tomorrow and Friday.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

Antonio Gibson gets 11 touches in NFL debut.

Gibson had nine carries for 36 yards and two receptions for eight yards in Washington's Week 1 victory versus the Eagles. Philadelphia is stout up front defensively, so there wasn't a ton of room to navigate for Washington's runners; but Gibson ran the ball hard and showed glimpses of his versatility. Peyton Barber (17 carries, 29 yards, two touchdowns) led the backfield, though, and the immediate workhorse workload many were expecting for Gibson might not come for at least a few weeks. For now, Gibson is just a FLEX option in fantasy lineups.

Antonio Gibson | Commanders RB

The Redskins have selected Memphis running back Antonio Gibson with the No. 66 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Gibson is a versatile offensive weapon that can play both running back and wide receiver, but the Redskins interestingly announced him as a running back despite a very crowded group at that position already. The bottom line is probably that Gibson is going to be used in a role that gets the ball in his hands this season (like a Percy Harvin type), which could lead to some Year 1 fantasy value in deeper leagues in particular. Dynasty league owners will hope Gibson can develop into one of the NFL's top gamebreakers.
