Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (hamstring) officially active for Week 1.

Ekeler was thought to be trending in this direction, and he'll be in the lineup today. Fantasy owners need to keep him in lineups as at least a high-end RB2, but it will be interesting to see if they limit his workload, and the matchup is a difficult one versus Washington.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (hamstring) is officially questionable for Week 1.

Ekeler was able to practice on a limited basis to end the week after missing Wednesday’s and Thursday’s practices. The dynamic running back is looking like a game-time call, but there’s optimism that he’ll be ready to go. The Chargers thankfully play at 1:00 PM ET to kickoff their season, so Ekeler’s status will be known on Sunday morning.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (hamstring) officially did not practice today.

It's time to be very concerned about Ekeler's status for Week 1, but we'll see if he can get on the practice field tomorrow. For now, if you're between Ekeler and someone like Antonio Brown from tonight's game, it might be wise to consider Ekeler on the doubtful side of things as of this evening.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler officially dealing with hamstring issue.

Ekeler officially did not practice today after reporters spotted him working off to the side during practice. Of course, a hamstring injury is what forced him to a huge chunk of last season, so this is pretty notable ahead of Week 1. It's only Wednesday and the first official practice of the week, so hopefully Ekeler is just feeling some slight discomfort and is taking things slow. Ideally, he'll get up to a limited practice participation for tomorrow.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (concussion) has been ruled out for the rest of today.

Before leaving, Ekeler had seven carries for 18 yards and six receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown. His year ends with 116 carries for 530 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown along with 54 receptions for 403 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns in ten games. Credit to Ekeler for making a late-season return from a serious hamstring injury to play for his team despite the playoffs being out of reach. The dynamic running back figures to remain a huge part of the Chargers offense in 2021.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (quad) is officially listed as questionable for Week 15.

Ekeler—who strongly embraces fantasy football and likely wouldn't put out false information like Josh Jacobs—has apparently said he's not injured, so it would be a surprise if he wasn't active and featured tomorrow night. Keep him in lineups as a strong RB1 against a Las Vegas defense that will be missing multiple starters.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (hamstring) is officially active for the Chargers.

After missing the past six games with the serious hamstring injury, Ekeler is back for the first time since Week 4. Ekeler is not expected to be placed in the bellcow role immediately in his return, but the dynamic runner is still a strong Week 12 fantasy option and doesn’t need many touches to do a lot of damage.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

The Chargers activated Austin Ekeler (hamstring) from injured reserve.

This doesn’t guarantee Ekeler plays tomorrow against the Bills, but it certainly bodes well for his health and status moving forward. Check back tomorrow morning for Ekeler’s official Week 12 game status.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

The Chargers will designate Austin Ekeler (hamstring) for return from injured reserve this week.

Ekeler has made considerable progress since suffering a serious hamstring injury in Week 4, even declaring himself in midseason form while posting a workout video. There seems to be a chance Ekeler is even able to return for this Sunday against the Bills, but the Chargers will likely take a cautious approach with the star running back. It would be a surprise if Ekeler isn't back for the start of the fantasy playoffs.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

The Chargers officially placed Austin Ekeler (hamstring) on injured reserve.

This was fully expected, so this move is basically a formality. Ekeler is now out until at least Week 8, but he’s been given a recovery timeframe of about four-to-six weeks. Rookie Joshua Kelley is expected to lead the Los Angeles backfield with Ekeler out, with Justin Jackson complementing him.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler is dealing with a "serious" hamstring injury.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Ekeler "suffered what is considered a serious hamstring injury", adding that Ekeler will likely land on injured reserve "with the hope of returning later in the season." This is not a surprise after the way Ekeler could not even put pressure on his leg following the injury yesterday; but now it also sounds like it might not even be a lock that Ekeler will be able to return this season. Fantasy owners should obviously hold Ekeler on rosters, and hopefully he's back sometime in November or December.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler leaves game with apparent hamstring injury.

Ekeler was hit hard on a tackle toward the end of the first quarter, and he immediately grabbed his hamstring area. After laying on the ground for a few minutes, Ekeler is not putting any pressure on his leg and is now being carted to the locker room, so this doesn't look great obviously. Ekeler is in so much pain/discomfort, that it actually looked like they had a tough time getting him on the cart. We would be shocked if Ekeler returns to this game, and he had two carries for 12 yards and one reception for two yards before leaving.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

The Chargers signed Austin Ekeler to a new contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

It's reportedly a four-year, $24.5 million contract with $15 million guaranteed for Ekeler, who was set to be a restricted free agent on March 18. Perhaps Ekeler could have gotten more if other teams were able to make offers, but this deal looks like a win-win for the team and the player. Ekeler gets $15 million guaranteed, which is quite the haul for a former undrafted player, and he also gets to hit free agency again in 2023. Meanwhile, the Chargers get an explosive offensive weapon at an excellent price for the next four seasons. We'll see what happens with Melvin Gordon and the running back position overall for the Chargers this offseason, but Ekeler is expected to be a huge part of LA's offense—both as a runner and receiver—in 2020.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler catches three passes in the Chargers' playoff loss.

Ekeler gained 19 yards on his three receptions in the Divisional Round loss to New England. He didn't receive any carries in the game, as the Chargers were forced to throw the ball after falling behind by multiple touchdowns early. The Chargers tried to get the ball to Ekeler on a double-move for a potential touchdown in the second half, but it was covered well by the Patriots. Entering his third NFL season, Ekeler will be among the top handcuffs in fantasy behind Melvin Gordon, and he'll have standalone value in both standard and PPR formats.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler gets 15 touches in playoff win versus the Ravens.

Ekeler carried 11 times for 29 yards along with four receptions for 14 yards in the Chargers' Wild Card Round win. Baltimore keyed on stopping the second-year running back and did a good job of it, but Ekeler will look to find more room to run in the Divisional Round against the Patriots.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (groin) is officially active for the Wild Card Round.

Ekeler was officially listed as questionable heading into the weekend, but he wasn’t expected to miss today’s playoff game against the Ravens. The second-year running back will be a key change-of-pace option behind star runner Melvin Gordon as LA looks to advance to face New England in the Divisional Round.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (groin) is officially listed as questionable for the Wild Card Round.

Ekeler was limited in practice this week, but he should be good to go for the Chargers against the Ravens this weekend. The explosive second-year running back's official status will be known by around 11:30 AM ET on Sunday. If Ekeler is a surprise inactive, rookie Justin Jackson would step up behind star runner Melvin Gordon.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (groin) was officially limited in today's practice.

Ekeler was limited in yesterday's practice, too, and another limited session indicates he's not quite at 100% a few days away from the Chargers' playoff matchup with the Ravens. We'll see how the second-year running back is listed on the final Wild Card Round injury report when it's released sometime tomorrow.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler scores against the Broncos.

Ekeler carried eight times for 58 yards and a touchdown in the Chargers' Week 17 win, with the score coming on a one-yard run. The second-year running back also broke a 41-yard run in the victory, and he looked good in his return after missing the last two games with a neck injury. Ekeler's regular season ends with 106 carries for 554 yards and three touchdowns along with 39 receptions for 404 yards and three receiving touchdowns, and he was a solid FLEX option for much of the season. Melvin Gordon (knee) left the win over the Broncos, but he's expected to be OK; still, the 23-year-old will look to do some damage in the postseason, starting this Sunday against the Ravens.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (neck) was officially a full participant in today's practice.

Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn said that he expected Ekeler to be back for Week 17, and this full practice confirms that. Expect Ekeler to re-assume the backup role behind Melvin Gordon. He'll be a FLEX option in deeper leagues with fantasy titles on the line.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (neck) has been downgraded to out for Week 16.

Ekeler was listed as doubtful yesterday, but the Chargers went ahead and ruled him out before tomorrow night's game versus the Ravens. Justin Jackson will officially backup Melvin Gordon, and Ekeler remains week-to-week with his neck issue. Hopefully the second-year running back is feeling better soon.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (neck) is officially listed as questionable for Week 16.

Ekeler is not expected to play on Saturday night against the Ravens as he continues to deal with stingers. Perhaps he'll surprise and get out there for the Chargers, but expect him to be ruled out on Saturday evening. Rookie Justin Jackson will backup Melvin Gordon in Gordon's return to the field after missing the last three games with a knee injury.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (neck) remains out of practice.

The stinger is still giving the second-year running back some issues, but perhaps he can get back out there for tomorrow's practice ahead of the final Week 16 injury report being released. If not, it's possible the Chargers just rule him out ahead of Saturday night's matchup, though it probably helps that the game is at home, so the team won't be making a long trip to play the Ravens.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (concussion/neck) did not practice on Tuesday.

Ekeler missed last week's game against the Chiefs, but hopefully he can get cleared by Saturday. That said, Justin Jackson has impressed this month, and Melvin Gordon (knee) will obviously operate as the clear lead back and a superstar RB1 if he makes his expected return.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (neck/concussion) has been ruled out for Week 15.

This was fully expected while dealing with a stinger along with being in concussion protocol on a short week. Hopefully Ekeler is feeling better soon, but he should be considered week-to-week for now.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (neck, concussion) is unlikely to play on Thursday night.

This isn't surprising on a short week, but Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn also says the team is not optimistic about Melvin Gordon (knee) playing either. So it looks like Justin Jackson is set to lead the Chargers backfield in a huge matchup with the Chiefs. Ekeler seems likely to be ruled out tomorrow when the final Week 15 injury report is released.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler handles 17 touches in win over the Bengals.

Ekeler rushed 15 times for 66 yards and a touchdown, also adding two receptions for 28 yards. However, the second-year back left the game late and is reportedly dealing with a neck injury that could force him to miss Thursday night's matchup against Kansas City. Ideally, the Chargers will get Melvin Gordon (knee) back, but if the superstar back and Ekeler are both out, then Justin Jackson would need to be added in all leagues as a quality RB2 option.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler gets 18 touches against the Steelers.

Ekeler received a start with Melvin Gordon (knee) out of the lineup, but he didn’t have much room to run, carrying 13 times for 31 yards along with five receptions for 22 yards. Meanwhile, rookie Justin Jackson carried eight times for 63 yards and a touchdown. Jackson could be poised to become the backfield leader if Gordon misses more time, with Ekeler sliding into his normal complimentary role. Ekeler might still remain the No. 1 in the backfield if Gordon is out, but overall he’s probably best considered more of a FLEX option instead of a strong RB2.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler handles 15 touches in Week 12 win.

Ekeler rushed five times for 35 yards and a touchdown, also adding ten receptions for 68 yards. The biggest thing that happened in the win was obviously Melvin Gordon going down with a sprained MCL, so Ekeler has a chance to be featured for at least the start of the fantasy playoffs, and he's suddenly a strong RB2, especially in PPR leagues. Justin Jackson will also be involved, but Ekeler should be a huge factor for one of the league's best offenses. The Chargers take on the Steelers next Sunday night.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler totals 69 yards in loss to the Broncos.

Ekeler rushed six times for 29 yards, also adding two receptions for 40 yards. The second-year back had been quiet over the past couple weeks with just six carries for 40 yards, but he's still averaging 5.8 yards per carry as a dynamic change-of-pace to Melvin Gordon. Ekeler will be a decent FLEX option in all formats next week against the 2-8 Cardinals.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler handles just three touches in Week 10 win.

Ekeler rushed three times for 19 yards and wasn’t targeted in the passing game. It’s been a quiet couple weeks for Ekeler with just seven total touches since the bye, but Los Angeles has understandably given Melvin Gordon a larger share of the work. The second-year back is just a decent FLEX option for next week’s matchup against Denver.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler gets four touches in Week 9.

Ekeler carried three times for 21 yards and caught one pass for 13 yards versus Seattle. Ekeler played well, but Melvin Gordon stepped back into the lineup after missing one game and received most of the backfield work for the Chargers. At the midway point in the season, the second-year running back is on pace for 112 caries, 652 rushing yards, 40 receptions, 492 receiving yards, and six receiving touchdowns. He offers some upside in fantasy lineups against the Raiders next Sunday.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler handles 17 touches in win over the Titans.

Drawing the start for Melvin Gordon (hamstring), Ekeler rushed 12 times for 42 yards and caught five passes for 26 yards. It certainly wasn't the production that fantasy owners were hoping for with Ekeler handling a featured role, but he led the team with seven targets, which boosted him in PPR formats. The 23-year-old should revert back to a change-of-pace role when Los Angeles returns from their Week 8 bye to face the Seahawks.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler gets seven caries in Week 6.

Ekeler ran the ball very well against Cleveland, gaining 60 yards on his seven attempts with a long of 20 yards. The second-year running back was not involved as a receiver, but it was a solid day for those expecting FLEX production. Ekeler faces the Titans next week.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler scores 44-yard touchdown in win over the Raiders.

Ekeler rushed six times for 15 yards in the victory, but the highlight was a 44-yard catch-and-run that he took to the house in the second quarter. Despite operating as the clear No. 2 behind Melvin Gordon, Ekeler has been able to consistently produce for fantasy owners in a high-powered offense, and he's turned into a weekly FLEX option in all formats, including next Sunday against Cleveland. The 23-year-old is on pace for over 1,300 total yards.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler scores against the Niners.

Ekeler had eight carries for 25 yards and two receptions for 31 yards and a touchdown in LA's Week 4 win. The score was on a 22-yard go route the Philip Rivers put right on the money in the end zone. Through four games, Ekeler is on pace for 112 carries, 752 rushing yards, 52 receptions, 652 receiving yards, and eight receiving touchdowns. Even with Melvin Gordon performing like an elite RB1, there's enough work in the backfield for Ekeler to deliver solid standalone fantasy value.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler handles seven touches in Week 3 loss.

Ekeler rushed four times for 47 yards and caught three passes for 24 yards. He also lost a fumble in a 35-23 defeat. Ekeler broke off a 32-yard run in the game, but putting the ball on the ground (which he also did as a rookie) could cause him to lose snaps. Still, he's on the FLEX radar in 12-team leagues heading into a matchup with the 49ers next Sunday.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler totals 98 yards in Week 2 win over the Bills.

Ekeler rushed 11 times for 77 yards, also adding three receptions for 21 yards. LA's backup saw extended action with Melvin Gordon getting banged up a bit in a game they led 28-6 at halftime, and he took advantage of the opportunity with another impressive showing. Ekeler won't be a recommended FLEX option against the Rams in Week 3, but he should have standalone value most weeks in an explosive offense.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler totals 126 yards and a score in Week 1 defeat.

Ekeler rushed five times for 39 yards, also adding five receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown. It's important to note that the performance came in a high-scoring matchup against one of the league's worst defenses, but there's no denying that Ekeler looked good and will be a weekly part of the game plan. Even with Melvin Gordon III featured with 20-25 touches per game, the second-year back has standalone value. He gets the Bills next Sunday.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (hand) is questionable for Week 16.

Ekeler worked his way up to a full participation in today's practice, so it looks like he has a good chance on playing on Christmas Eve against the Jets despite earlier reports that Ekeler's season would be over because of his broken hand. The rookie running back isn't a fantasy option, but his presence would be good for the Chargers' backfield.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler (broken hand) might still be able to play.

Reports emerged yesterday about a broken hand for the rookie running back, but Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn says there is a chance he could still play with it. It's a good sign the broken hand doesn't appear to be a serious injury that requires surgery, and Ekeler might be able to just wrap it up and play with it. The Chargers might make a decision on Ekeler in the coming days, as he could be headed to IR if they decide to just end his season.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler fumbles in Chargers' loss.

Ekeler had a costly fumble in the second half that set up the Chiefs in Chargers territory as he caught a pass in the flat for a first down but then lost it. Overall, Ekeler had two carries for 13 yards and one reception for six yards with the fumble. Ekeler did leave the game with a hand injury that apparently occurred on the play he fumbled, but he should be fine for Week 16.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler handles four touches in win over the Redskins.

Ekeler rushed four times for 49 yards, including a long run of 33 yards. The run turned out to be a bad play, though, as it was a draw to set up an easier field goal attempt at the end of the first half, but he took too much time off the clock. Fortunately, it didn't end up hurting Los Angeles in a 30-13 win. Ekeler should be a sparingly-used change-of-pace behind Melvin Gordon next week in a huge AFC West matchup with the Chiefs on Saturday night.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler gets six touches against the Browns.

Ekeler carried four times for 19 yards and added two receptions (on three targets) for 21 yards. While the undrafted rookie has done a superb job mixing in behind starter Melvin Gordon this season, it's difficult to trust him in fantasy lineups as anything more than a desperate FLEX option, given his volatile workload.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler gets nine touches in Week 12.

The undrafted rookie carried six times for 15 yards and added three receptions (on three targets) for 55 yards in the Thanksgiving win at Dallas. The Chargers clearly trust Ekeler, and he'll continue to mix in for some quality touches behind Melvin Gordon. However, it's difficult to trust him in fantasy lineups.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler scores again in Week 11.

Ekeler carried six times for 40 yards and a touchdown while adding two receptions (on two targets) for 18 yards against the Bills. Ekeler's touchdown was a 21-yarder late in the game when he got to the second level and raced to the end zone basically untouched. The undrafted rookie continues to contribute to the Chargers, but he's not a recommended fantasy option behind Melvin Gordon.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler scores twice in Chargers' loss.

Ekeler played an excellent game against the Jaguars, carrying ten times for 42 yards and catching five passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Both touchdowns came on throws to the right in the flat, and Ekeler turned up field and ran down the sideline for scores. Honestly, it was terrible defense by the Jaguars on them, especially on the second when Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey did not appear interested in trying to stop Ekeler from getting in the end zone. Ekeler did have a fumble late in the fourth quarter of the loss, and Melvin Gordon played for most of the rest of the game after that. Despite the great game, consider him a handcuff to Gordon still.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler gets three touches against New England.

Ekeler carries twice for eight yards and caught his lone target for 13 yards in the Chargers' loss. He'll continue spelling Melvin Gordon and chipping in on offense.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler sees 11 touches in Week 7 win.

Ekeler rushed seven times for 38 yards and caught four passes for six yards, including a one-yard touchdown. This was probably a one-week thing, as Melvin Gordon should be back in 25+ touch range next Sunday against New England.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler gets one carry in Week 6.

He gained one yard on his one attempt while also adding an eight-yard reception against the Raiders. Ekeler is a handcuff to Melvin Gordon for now.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler gets seven touches in Week 5.

Ekeler mixed in behind Melvin Gordon, carrying four times for no yards and adding three receptions (on six targets) for 28 yards. Ekeler looks to have a solid role on some passing situations, but he's not a reliable fantasy option yet.

Austin Ekeler | Chargers RB

Austin Ekeler scores against the Eagles.

The undrafted rookie running back scored on his first-career carry, as he had a nice 35-yard run on his only carry of the game. It was cool to see all his teammates embrace him on the sideline in what must've been a thrilling moment for the rookie from Western State in Colorado. Ekeler also had two receptions for 23 yards in the game, as Melvin Gordon was on the sideline more than usual as he battled his knee issue.
