WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

The Patriots are releasing Austin Seferian-Jenkins, according to multiple reports.

This release is a bit of a surprise, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says Seferian-Jenkins is "taking a step away for a month for personal issues and the team will release him as he does that." ASJ was seen as the early favorite to start at tight end for the Patriots to open the season with Benjamin Watson set to serve a four-game suspension, so this could lead to New England looking into potentially acquiring Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph via a trade, which they might have already been looking into anyway. Hopefully Seferian-Jenkins is OK and can get back on the field with the Patriots or another team ahead of this season.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

The Patriots have signed Austin Seferian-Jenkins, according to Field Yates.

This is probably the best possible landing spot for ASJ, as New England obviously has a huge hole at the position following Rob Gronkowski's retirement. The 26-year-old only caught 11 passes for 90 yards and one touchdown in five games last year for the Jaguars, but if the team doesn't draft a top-rated rookie option like Noah Fant later this month, Seferian-Jenkins will draw low-end TE1 consideration in fantasy drafts.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

The Jaguars declined their option on Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

This was reportedly going to happen, but the Jaguars had said they didn't make a decision a few weeks ago. Apparently they now have made a decision, as Seferian-Jenkins' time in Jacksonville ends after one season. ASJ is still just 26 years old, and he'll likely draw solid interest when he officially becomes an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year next month.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

The Jaguars are placing Austin Seferian-Jenkisns on injured reserve.

Seferian-Jenkins is being placed on injured reserve for the core muscle injury he's been dealing with, but he'll be eligible to return after eight weeks. ASJ can be safely dropped in fantasy leagues. Niles Paul will assume the top tight end role for Jacksonville, and he might offer some TE1 upside for the rest of the season.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins doesn't catch a pass in Week 5.

Meanwhile, Niles Paul and James O'Shaughnessy combined for ten receptions on 15 targets. Seferian-Jenkins is not a recommended fantasy option right now.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins catches two passes against the Jets.

Seferian-Jenkins gained 24 yards on his two receptions against his former team, putting his four-game pace at 44 receptions for 360 yards and four touchdowns. Seferian-Jenkins is not a highly-recommended fantasy option.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins gets five targets in Week 3.

Seferian-Jenkins caught three passes for 18 yards against the Titans. ASJ is difficult to trust in fantasy lineups, as he probably needs touchdowns to deliver weekly fantasy value.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins scores in Week 2 win.

Seferian-Jenkins was able to get free in the end zone against New England, and he finished with three receptions for 23 yards and a touchdown. ASJ will look to find the end zone again when the Jags take on the Titans next week, but he's just a touchdown-dependent TE2 option.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins catches three passes in Week 1.

Seferian-Jenkins gained 25 yards on his three receptions (five targets), and he had a touchdown wiped out by an offensive penalty. ASJ probably needs a touchdown to be a viable starting option in Week 2 against the Patriots. There should be better fantasy options at a deep position.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins announces he is signing with the Jaguars.

ASJ had a nice post on Instagram thanking the Jets organization for giving him a second chance and helping turn his career around the last two seasons. It's reportedly a two-year deal for Seferian-Jenkins, who joins a very crowded tight end group in Jacksonville with Niles Paul and Marcedes Lewis. Paul was just in a similar situation in Washington with Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis, and he might be a little puzzled at the move. It's unclear who will emerge as the primary receiving threat at tight end for the Jags, but Seferian-Jenkins might be the best bet for fantasy production.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins plans to visit the Seahawks and Jaguars.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the Seattle news, and ESPN's Josina Anderson says Seferian-Jenkins told her he plans to visit the Jaguars too. Seattle is looking to add another tight end after letting Jimmy Graham go in free agency, while the Jaguars are looking to add more to the group after already keeping Marcedes Lewis for 2018. The Jets could also remain a possibility, but ASJ leaving after two seasons in New York might be the more realistic scenario.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins (ribs/foot) is out for Week 17.

Seferian-Jenkins was listed as doubtful coming into today, so this was expected. ASJ had a nice season overall for the Jets, catching 50 passes for 357 yards (both career highs) and three touchdowns. The 2014 second-round pick of the Bucs will be a free agent this offseason, so we'll see where he lands in free agency.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins (ribs/foot) is not expected to play in Week 17.

He's listed as doubtful and hasn't practiced this week, so it'd be a surprise if ASJ played in the regular season finale on Sunday. Expect him to be declared out on or before Sunday, and no Jets tight ends would be recommended fantasy option in his absence.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins gets eight targets against the Chargers.

ASJ caught four passes for 21 yards in the Week 16 loss. He hasn't had 25 yards in any of the last four games, so ASJ is difficult to trust in fantasy lineups.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins has quiet Week 15 as Jets fall to 5-9.

Seferian-Jenkins caught two passes for 13 yards, though he did nearly make an unbelievable, one-handed catch that he was interfered with on. ASJ had a brief stint as a TE1 option this season, but he can be dropped with Bryce Petty in at quarterback for the injured Josh McCown.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins caught one pass for one yard in Sunday's loss to Denver.

Seferian-Jenkins and the offense didn't get going at all with barely 100 total yards and no points. ASJ can probably be dropped in redraft leagues after Josh McCown broke his hand. The Jets travel to New Orleans next week.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins catches two passes against the Chiefs.

ASJ gained seven yards on his two receptions, as Jermaine Kearse and Robby Anderson did most of the damage for the Jets in the game. Seferian-Jenkins should have a better game next week against a Broncos team that struggles to defend tight ends.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins comes up two plays short of big day in Week 12 loss.

Seferian-Jenkins ended up with two receptions for 27 yards, but he dropped a would-be touchdown in the end zone and had another touchdown not count after review. ASJ has cooled off over the past few weeks, and he's no better a low-end TE1 option against the Chiefs next Sunday.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins caught six passes for 67 yards in Sunday's loss to Tampa Bay.

Seferian-Jenkins set a season-high in yardage against the team that drafted him, but New York struggled to get going offensively in a 15-10 defeat. ASJ should be a low-end TE1 option when the Jets return from their Week 11 bye, but it's safe to drop him if you need roster space.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins catches two passes against the Bills.

ASJ was only targeted twice in the game, so he did about as well as you can expect on a night where the Jets threw the ball only 14 times and were up big. Seferian-Jenkins didn't recover an onside kick when he had an opportunity, but mistakes like that happen. On offense, he'll look to do more damage in a game he might be determined to make a big statement in next week—against his former team, the Bucs.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins caught five passes for 28 yards in Sunday's loss to the Falcons.

ASJ's touchdown streak is snapped at three games, but the heavy rain didn't help him against Atlanta. It was encouraging to see him still heavily involved with another five receptions, though, which is great for PPR owners. Seferian-Jenkins will be more of a low-end TE1 option against the Bills on Thursday night. He was suspended when the Jets played Buffalo in the season opener.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins scores again as Jets fall to Dolphins.

Seferian-Jenkins caught three passes for 21 yards, including a 10-yard score in the third quarter to put the Jets up 28-14, but they lost 31-28. ASJ has now scored in three-straight games, and he continues to be a steady option for Josh McCown. The 25-year-old is a solid TE1 option against the Falcons next Sunday.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins stay hot in loss to the Patriots.

Seferian-Jenkins caught eight passes for 46 yards and one touchdown, but he should have had two, as an inexplicable overturn on review took away a second score. To make matters worse, it was ruled a lost fumble instead. Nonetheless, ASJ has become a reliable target for Josh McCown over the past few weeks. He's a TE1 against Miami next Sunday.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins scores in Week 5 win.

Seferian-Jenkins caught six passes for 29 yards, including a two-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter. The touchdown helped ASJ be worth the TE1 play, and PPR owners should be happy with the catch total. He's worth a look again next Sunday against New England.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins caught four passes for 46 yards in Sunday's win over the Jaguars.

ASJ has become an immediate contributor following his suspension, as he's caught nine passes over the past two weeks. He has a great matchup with Cleveland next week and should be a solid streaming option for those struggling at tight end.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins makes 2017 debut for the Jets.

After missing two games with a suspension, ASJ returned and received six targets from Josh McCown, which tied for a team high with Robby Anderson. Seferian-Jenkins caught five of the targets and had 31 yards in the game. He's worth an add if you're struggling at tight end, as McCown could be looking his way a lot this season.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins scores in Week 4 of the preseason.

ASJ had two receptions (on two targets) for 32 yards and a touchdown versus the Eagles. On his first catch, he caught a drag route and showed his improved speed—thanks to his weight loss—taking it for 20 yards. Seferian-Jenkins then went up and caught a pass in the end zone for a touchdown in the second quarter. He's suspended the first two games of the season, but Seferian-Jenkins could be a big part of the passing offense when he returns for the Jets.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins catches one-of-three targets in Jets' third preseason game.

ASJ had 16 yards on his one reception in the exhibition against the Giants. Because he's suspended to start the season, it's possible Seferian-Jenkins plays in the Jets' fourth preseason game on Thursday. If not, we'll see him in Week 3 after he serves his two-game suspension ASJ isn't even being drafted in the top 25 tight ends, but there's a chance he provides at least TE2 value in 2017.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins catches one pass for seven yards in preseason opener.

The starting tight end for the Jets is looking to rejuvenate his career after dropping 25 pounds and getting his life in order. He should get a sizable amount of playing time in the last few preseason games, as he's suspended for the first two games of the regular season.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins has been a "frequent target" of the quarterbacks in training camp.

Eric Allen of NewYorkJets.com says ASJ, who is down 33 pounds, looks like he gives the Jets "a bona fide receiving threat at tight end for the first time in years." After dealing with a drinking problem and now getting sober, Seferian-Jenkins is looking like a lot better player. Because the Jets have many young players at wide receiver around ASJ, he could emerge as a reliable target for whoever the Jets' starting quarterback is. Both Josh McCown and Christian Hackenberg would likely look Seferian-Jenkins was a decent amount. ASJ has some sleeper potential at the end of fantasy drafts.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins has been impressive at OTAs, according to multiple reports.

NJ.com's Connor Hughes said ASJ was "the most impressive player on the field and caught everything in sight" during OTAs. Dropping 25 pounds and getting his life in order has certainly benefited Seferian-Jenkins, who is looking to make an impact after basically drinking his career away during his first few seasons. With Eric Decker set to be released or traded by the Jets and Brandon Marshall already gone to the Giants, there should be a lot of targets up for grabs in the offense. ASJ is a sleeper at the end of 2017 fantasy drafts.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins has been sober for 129 days and lost 25 pounds.

Seferian-Jenkins opened up about his struggles to ESPN. He says the Jets—who picked him up after the Buccaneers released him following a DUI arrest last fall—have stuck with him and been a huge help. Head coach Todd Bowles says ASJ is in "a good groove right now." Seferian-Jenkins was a second round pick by the Bucs in 2014, so the potential is there. It's good to see ASJ taking positive steps after his career was off the rails there.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins is suspended for the first two games of next season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

ASJ has had trouble throughout his career with maturity issues. The positive news is that Seferian-Jenkins can be with the team throughout the preseason.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins had three catches for 34 yards against the 49ers.

Quarterback Bryce Petty seems a bit more likely to use all weapons than Ryan Fitzpatrick, but ASJ is way off the fantasy radar as a Jets TE.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

ASJ catches two passes for 29 yards against Indy.

He's way off the fantasy radar.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Free Agent TE

Austin Seferian-Jenkins was targeted twice on Sunday, pulling in one for only nine yards.

It was nice to see Fitzpatrick remember he had tight ends, especially with New England dropping linebackers deep all day. Both targets were short as the Jets didn't run their tight ends on many deep routes. ASJ is way off the fantasy radar.
