WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Chad Kelly | Free Agent QB

The Colts waived Chad Kelly.

Indy is probably the best spot for Kelly, who might ultimately land back with the team again on the practice squad. The talented quarterback does not need to be held in dynasty leagues.

The Colts promoted Chad Kelly to the active roster.

With Jacoby Brissett (knee) up in the air for tomorrow's game against the Dolphins, Kelly is likely being brought up to the 53-man roster as insurance in case Brissett can't go.

The Colts signed Chad Kelly to the practice squad.

Kelly went unclaimed on waivers (if a team waived him he would've had to take up a spot on the 53-man roster), and it was expected he'd land back with the Colts. The talented quarterback will look to develop in Indy.

The Colts waived Chad Kelly.

With Kelly's two-game suspension ending, the Colts had a decision to make at quarterback and presumably did not want to carry three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster at this time. Indy will likely try to get the talented Ole Miss product onto the practice squad, but Kelly will go through waivers first.

The NFL has suspended Chad Kelly two games.

Kelly is being suspended for violating the league’s personal conduct policy from when he drunkenly wandered into a random person’s home while he was with the Broncos. This doesn’t help Kelly as he looks to make the Colts roster this summer, but Indy probably expected a suspension would be coming.

The Colts have signed Chad Kelly.

Kelly, who was released by the Broncos last year following a drunken trespassing incident, is of course the nephew of Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, which gives him a connection to head coach Frank Reich (Kelly's backup in Buffalo). The 25-year-old will hope to show enough this summer to make the roster as Indy's No. 3 quarterback behind Andrew Luck and Jacoby Brissett.

The Broncos have released Chad Kelly, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Kelly was arrested for first-degree criminal trespassing early Tuesday morning, and now it's being reported that he was in a physical altercation at teammate Von Miller's party prior to the arrest. The second-year quarterback has simply not kept his head straight, and unfortunately he might not ever get it together considering he blew an opportunity to potentially be the Broncos' quarterback of the future. Now, Denver is without a young quarterback to potentially lead the franchise unless they believe Case Keenum can be that guy into his 30s. It seems unlikely another team will give Jim Kelly's nephew another shot in the NFL, as the 24-year-old is difficult to trust right now.

Chad Kelly was charged with first-degree criminal trespassing.

More information should become available on the incident, but it looks like a flat-out stupid decision by someone that's had a history of bad decision off the field. The second-year quarterback might have been set for an extensive look on the field at some point this season, but he's obviously putting that in jeopardy. Kelly wouldn't be a highly-recommended fantasy option even if he does get past this and become Denver's starting quarterback.

The Broncos have elevated Chad Kelly to backup quarterback.

After Paxton Lynch struggled in Saturday's preseason game while Kelly flashed his talent and went 14/21 for 177 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, along with three carries for 38 rushing yards, Denver is giving the second-year quarterback reps with the twos. Despite being a seventh-round pick last year, Kelly is a very talented player, and he would've went higher in the draft if not for off-field concerns. He has a legit shot at eventually becoming the quarterback of the future for the Broncos, so he should remain on dynasty-league radars.

Kelly (knee) has been placed on the PUP list.

The Broncos drafted the talented (but troubled) quarterback with the last pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, and he is likely looking at a redshirt year after he tore his ACL and meniscus last November. The nephew of Hall of Famer Jim Kelly, Chad has a big arm and could have been a Day 1 or Day 2 pick if not for his injury and off-field concerns. Denver drafted Paxton Lynch in the first round in 2016, but Kelly is someone to keep an eye on for 2018 and beyond.

The Broncos make the final pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, select "Mr. Irrelevant," Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly.

Chad Kelly, of course, is the nephew of Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly. Kelly suffered a knee injury in November of last season (his senior season) at Ole Miss and missed the rest of the season. His junior season was his best, as he threw for 4,042 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, along with 509 rushing yards and ten touchdowns on the ground and Ole Miss ended the season as a top ten team in the nation. Kelly was dismissed from Clemson in 2014 because of multiple issues, and he transferred to Ole Miss for 2015 and 2016. There is no question Kelly has a lot of talent, but his character was a question mark that is a large reason he was the last pick of the draft. If Kelly stays positive and doesn't cause any issues, he has very high potential. There's a chance Kelly eventually competes with Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch for the starting job, but it almost certainly won't be as a rookie as he's behind the curve and recovering from injury. He's someone to keep an eye on.
