WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

The Vikings are acquiring Chris Herndon from the Jets.

Minnesota is sending New York late-round draft compensation in return for Herndon, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Herndon is a talented player that never really found his footing for an extended stretch with the Jets, and he'll help fill the void at tight end for as long as Irv Smith Jr. is out.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

The Jets have placed Chris Herndon (ribs) on injured reserve.

Herndon played in one game this season, catching one pass for seven yards last week against the Giants. It's unfortunately a lost season for the talented tight end, as his year began with a four-game suspension, and a hamstring injury delayed his debut until this month. The injury history is now a real concern for Herndon, but he's a player that head coach Adam Gase referred to as a "unicorn" when he got the job, and his dynasty stock probably won't get any lower than it is right now. There is probably a case to be made for TE1 value in drafts next summer.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon will miss an extended period of time with fractured ribs.

Herndon saw his first action of the season yesterday, but this new injury will cost him multiple games. While the talent is certainly there for the second-year tight end, injuries have completely derailed his season, and he no longer needs to be rostered in redraft leagues. Ryan Griffin will step back in as the starter for New York, but he's nothing more than a desperation TE2 option; Jamison Crowder may be the biggest beneficiary from a fantasy perspective.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon (hamstring) is officially active against the Giants.

Herndon was also active last week, but it sounds like today he might hit the field in an extensive role for the first time this season. At a shallow position with six teams on a bye, Herndon is squarely in the streaming mix at tight end for Week 10, and he has definite long-term upside over the second half of the year.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon (hamstring) is questionable for Week 10.

Herndon is expected to play on Sunday, but fantasy owners probably can't feel great about his status considering he will carry a questionable tag into the weekend. However, with six teams on a bye, Herndon is worth considering as a TE2 option in a good matchup.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon (hamstring) is active for Week 9.

After serving a four-game suspension and then missing a few more weeks with a hamstring injury, Herndon is ready to make his 2019 season debut. At a shallow position, the promising second-year tight end is immediately a TE1 option in fantasy lineups.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon (hamstring) is questionable for Week 9.

Herndon has yet to play in 2019, but hopefully Sunday will finally be his debut in Adam Gase's offense. New York's head coach referred to him as a "unicorn" earlier this year, so Herndon would probably be an immediate TE1 option if he plays against Miami.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon (hamstring) will remain limited in today's practice.

Jets head coach Adam Gase says that Herndon has a chance to play this week, but ideally we'll see him get in a full practice tomorrow. Consider the second-year tight end 50/50 for Week 9 at this point.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon (hamstring) will be limited in today's practice.

Herndon appears to be getting close to his season debut, but a limited practice to start this week was expected. Hopefully Herndon can get up to a full participation by Friday, but we'll keep you posted.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 8.

Herndon was listed as doubtful when the injury report was released yesterday, but he's been downgraded to out and presumably will not be making the trip to Jacksonville for tomorrow's game. Herndon appears to be getting close to a return, though, and he should be held on fantasy rosters if possible because tight end is so shallow.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon (hamstring) is officially listed as doubtful for Week 8.

Herndon is nearing his season debut, but it’s not likely to come this Sunday against the Jaguars. Herndon is worth holding at a shallow position if possible.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon (hamstring) officially remains limited in practice.

Today will be Herndon's second consecutive limited practice as he looks to potentially get on the field this Sunday at Jacksonville. We'll update you with Herndon's official game status when the final Week 8 injury report is released tomorrow.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon (hamstring) will be limited in today's practice.

This indicates Herndon should have a pretty good chance to make his 2019 debut this Sunday against the Jaguars. We'll track the second-year tight end's practice status the next couple of days, but he's worth a look as a fantasy pickup at a very shallow position.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon (hamstring) is officially inactive for Week 7.

Herndon was listed as doubtful for tonight's matchup against the Patriots, so this was expected. The second-year tight end is getting closer to his 2019 debut, but he remains week-to-week for now.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon (hamstring) is officially doubtful for Week 7.

Herndon’s debut will likely have to wait at least another week, but the schedule will really lighten up after Monday night, so he’s worth holding onto as a potential TE1 down the stretch. Ryan Griffin won’t be a recommended play if he draws another start.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon (hamstring) is expected to miss two weeks, according to Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport says that Herndon suffered a Grade 1 strain while practicing on his own last Friday, and he will miss Week 6 and "likely" Week 7, which is a definite blow to fantasy owners that spent a top waiver claim on him. It's also damaging to the Jets offense, as they will be down one of their top playmakers while looking to climb out of an 0-4 hole. Herndon is worth holding onto with tight end looking extremely thin, but you can drop him if you need a roster spot.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon is dealing with a hamstring injury.

Herndon was running routes on his own last Friday, and Jets head coach Adam Gase said he suffered a "legit" hamstring injury—so it sounds like this could be a lengthy absence, and he should be considered week-to-week. The team's starting tight end will not practice today, and he seems unlikely to play in Week 6, but we'll update you if he's able to hit the practice field tomorrow or Friday. This is a tough break for Herndon and the Jets after the second-year player was just returning from his four-game suspension. The Jets have not had much luck this season, and this is just the latest setback.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

The NFL has suspended Chris Herndon for the first four games of the regular season for a violation of the league's substance abuse policy.

A suspension was expected for the second-year tight end, but the Jets and Herndon investors were likely hoping for a two-game ban. Now, the 23-year-old will miss a decent chunk of the season (especially with the Jets having a Week 4 bye), and he's gone from a potential TE1 option in fantasy drafts to someone that's probably not worth rostering with the position looking fairly deep this year. Last season, Herndon caught 39 passes for 502 yards and four touchdowns. New York could look to fourth-rounder Trevon Wesco to step up, but the most likely fallout from this will be more early-season touches for Le'Veon Bell.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon catches one pass in Week 17 loss.

It went for eight yards. Herndon's impressive rookie season ends with 39 receptions for 502 yards and four touchdowns as a 12-game starter (16 appearances). The Miami product will deserve backend TE1 consideration for 2019 depending on the offensive system of a new coaching staff.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon scores against Green Bay.

Herndon caught six passes for 82 yards and a touchdown in the Jets' Week 16 loss. The score came when Herndon was wide-open in the flat for five yards, but the rookie tight end's highlight was a fantastic one-handed grab in traffic to set up an Elijah McGuire touchdown; it was one of the catches of the year. Herndon now has four touchdowns this season, and he'll look to finish his strong rookie season on a high note next week against the Patriots. He had 57 yards against New England earlier this season.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon catches three passes in Week 15.

Herndon gained 53 yards on his three receptions against the Texans. Late in the game, Herndon nearly had a nice catch to set the Jets up inside the five-yard line, but the pass was slightly tipped before it could get to Herndon cleanly. The rookie tight end has a tough matchup against the Packers in Week 16, so he probably shouldn't be in fantasy championship lineups.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon catches one pass for 14 yards against the Bills.

This was Herndon's lowest receiving total since Week 5. The rookie tight end has been playing well this season and has a strong dynasty-league outlook, but rookie tight ends are typically difficult to trust in fantasy lineups.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon caught two passes for 31 yards in Sunday's loss.

Herndon saw a healthy six targets, but the Jets really struggled to move the ball through the air. Look for the rookie to remain involved next week in Buffalo, but he's nothing more than a low-end TE2 option for the fantasy playoffs.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon catches seven passes in Week 12.

Herndon gained 57 yards on his seven receptions (eight targets) against the Patriots. The seven catches set a career-high for the rookie. Herndon is playing well at a position rookies tend to struggle, so his dynasty outlook is very promising. He's not a recommended fantasy option next week against a Titans team that's been among the league's best against opposing tight ends this season.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon leads the Jets in Week 10 receiving.

The rookie tight end caught three passes for 34 yards against the Bills. Herndon has arguably been the most consistent receiving option in an offense that's not playing well right now, but it's difficult to trust any of the Jets' receivers or tight ends as strong fantasy option right now. The Jets have a bye next week.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon leads the Jets in Week 9 receiving.

The rookie tight end continues to play well for the Jets, catching four passes (on four targets) for 62 yards versus Miami, where he played his college ball with the Hurricanes. This ends Herndon's streak of three straight games with a touchdown, but he now has fantasy point totals of 11, 10, 7, and 6 (standard scoring) in the last four games. He's worth a look if you're hurting at tight end or need to stream someone with your starter on a bye.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon scores again in Week 8.

Herndon caught a 16-yard touchdown on his lone reception against the Bears, making it three straight weeks with a touchdown for the rookie tight end. The Miami product isn't yet a highly-recommended TE1 option in redraft leagues, but he remains an excellent hold in dynasty leagues.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon scores against the Vikings.

Herndon caught an in-breaking route in the red zone, making it two scores in as many weeks for the rookie tight end. Overall, Herndon had four receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown in the Week 7 loss. The University of Miami product has emerged as the clear top tight end for Sam Darnold, and he might be worth a look if you're struggling at tight end.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon catches first career touchdown in Jets' win.

Herndon caught a 32-yard touchdown on a pass down the left sideline, where he was basically wide-open. Overall, Herndon had two receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown in the Week 6 victory. The rookie tight end isn't yet a fantasy option, but he's someone to keep an eye on. Congrats to him on his first career NFL touchdown.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon catches one pass in Week 4.

Herndon's lone reception went for 18 yards. The fourth-round rookie tight end is not currently a fantasy option in standard leagues.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon catches two passes in Jets' loss.

Herndon had -1 yard on his two receptions (two targets), as he was mostly an outlet for Sam Darnold. None of the Jets tight ends are recommended weekly fantasy options, but the rookie tight end should be held in dynasty leagues.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Chris Herndon catches two passes in Week 2.

Herndon gained 30 yards on his two receptions (four targets) against the Dolphins—the first catches of his career. The rookie tight end isn't a recommended fantasy option at the moment.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

Jets rookie tight end Chris Herndon was charged with driving while intoxicated, according to the Miami Herald.

Herndon reportedly crashed early Saturday morning and was charged with the DWI. Obviously, this is not a good look for the fourth-round rookie tight end, and he could be disciplined by the league for the incident. At the very least, he's going to hear about his stupidity from the Jets. This isn't a great start to the former Miami tight end's NFL career, but hopefully he can stay out of trouble moving forward.

Chris Herndon | Saints TE

The Jets have selected Miami (FL) tight end Chris Herndon with the 107th pick (fourth round) of the 2018 NFL Draft.

New York gets a solid, all-around tight end to grow with Sam Darnold. Herndon is very similar to Charles Clay as a unique target that plays a bit like a running back. He could have a path to immediate playing time on a largely unproven depth chart, but rookies are rarely big-time contributors at the position, so Herndon is probably just a dynasty option.
