C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

The Jaguars are signing C.J. Beathard.

Beathard is a former third-round pick of the Niners that has solid playing experience (19 games) and has played pretty well. He's strong depth in the Jaguars quarterback room, which is soon to add Clemson product Trevor Lawrence to the mix barring something unforeseen.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

C.J. Beathard (right wrist) is officially listed as questionable for Thursday night.

Beathard has indicated he wants to play, but his status is likely to come down to whether the Niners feel he can play effectively. If it was up to him, he'd almost certainly be out there, but the 1-7 Niners know this isn't game is highly unlikely to affect their chances of making the postseason, which are nearly at zero right now; in fact, tomorrow night's game against the Raiders could potentially have a huge impact for the No. 1 pick, so the Niners might not mind giving Nick Mullens a shot to see what happens with Beathard at less than 100% on a short week.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

C.J. Beathard (right wrist) will be a game-time decision for Thursday night.

The short week complicates things as Beathard attempts to give it a go against the Raiders while dealing with his right wrist injury. Expect the second-year quarterback to be listed as questionable when the official injury report for the game is released tomorrow. If Beathard can't go, second-year undrafted quarterback Nick Mullens would start for the Niners, which would likely give the Raiders D/ST a boost for Week 9.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

C.J. Beathard throws one touchdown in Niners' loss.

Beathard was 14/28 for 190 yards and one touchdown along with five carries for nine yards against the Cardinals. The Niners were ahead for most of the game, but Arizona came back with 15 fourth-quarter points. Beathard nearly drove his team for a game-tying field goal, but a snap went over his head on the final play with San Francisco within ten yards of field goal range. Beathard faces the Raiders on a quick turnaround on Thursday night, and while you have to admire how hard he plays, it's tough to trust him in fantasy lineups.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

C.J. Beathard gets pressured in Week 7.

The Rams got constant pressure on Beathard, sacking him seven times and making it difficult for the offense to get anything going through the air. The second-year quarterback was 15/27 for 170 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, along with two carries for 13 yards and one fumble lost. The score was on a red-zone pass to college teammate George Kittle at the end of the first half. Beathard faces a struggling Cardinals team next week, but he's not a recommended fantasy option.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

C.J. Beathard plays well in Niners' Week 6 loss.

In a tough environment in Lambeau Field against the Packers, Beathard again showed his poise and toughness, playing a really solid game for the Niners. Beathard was 16/23 for 245 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception along with three carries for 21 yards. The second-year quarterback was great under pressure, and both touchdowns were to speedster Marquise Goodwin down the field, including a 67-yarder on a dime. Beathard continues to play well, but he's not a recommended fantasy option next week against the Rams.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

C.J. Beathard turns the ball over four times in Niners' loss.

Beathard again played a tough game for the Niners, but the Cardinals pressured him throughout the game and forced four turnovers (two interceptions, two fumbles). Beathard was 34/54 for 349 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, and two fumbles lost, with two carries for seven yards and a touchdown on the ground. The second-year quarterback battled and tried to bring his team back, but they fell to 1-4 on the season. Beathard is not a highly-recommended fantasy option next Monday night at Lambeau Field.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

C.J. Beathard plays hard but the Niners fall to the Chargers.

In Beathard's first start of the season for an injured Jimmy Garoppolo, he played well and helped San Francisco compete in LA against the Chargers. Beathard was 23/37 for 298 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions along with seven carries for 19 yards. The first score was the Kendrick Bourne off a play-action fake near the goal line, and the second score was an 82-yarder to college teammate George Kittle. Beathard put his body on the line, much like he did last season, which helps rally his teammates without their franchise quarterback. Beathard will look to lead the Niners to a win against the winless Cardinals in Week 5.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

C.J. Beathard's leg injury isn't serious.

Beathard sounds like he should be good to go for Sunday against the Bears, but 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan says he's not sure if it'll be Beathard of Jimmy Garoppolo that starts for the team. A decision will be made by Wednesday, so the Niners aren't going to hide who will be under center this Sunday.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

C.J. Beathard leaves late in Week 12 game with injury.

Beathard drew another start for the 49ers, going 22/38 for 201 yards and an interception while adding six carries for 21 yards against the Seahawks. The rookie quarterback again showed his toughness throughout the game, but he injured his leg on the final drive for the 49ers and had to come out of the game for Jimmy Garoppolo. If healthy, Beathard might continue to start for the 49ers, but the severity of the injury isn't clear.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

C.J. Beathard leads 49ers to their first win of the season.

Beathard was 19/25 for 288 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He also rushed five times for 15 yards and another touchdown. The third-round pick connected with Marquise Goodwin and Garrett Celek for long scores, but his time as the starter could be over if Jimmy Garoppolo takes over for him over the bye week. Either way, Beathard has performed admirably for San Francisco this season, and he looks like he could be a long-term, high-end backup for the rebuilding team.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

C.J. Beathard, Niners fall to 0-9 with 20-10 loss to the Cardinals.

Beathard was 24/51 for 294 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. He also rushed three times for 16 yards and a touchdown. The rookie is expected to remain the starter against the Giants in Week 10 as Jimmy Garoppolo learns a complex offensive system, and he will look to give San Francisco their first win of the season. He might be worth a look as a low-end streaming option.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

C.J. Beathard, 49ers fall to 0-8 with loss to the Eagles.

Beathard was 17/36 for 167 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. He also led the team with 40 rushing yards on six attempts. The rookie didn't have much help in a tough environment, but his competitiveness was on display throughout the game. Beathard isn't a fantasy option against the Cardinals in Week 9.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

49ers get blown out 40-10 in C.J. Beathard's first career start.

Beathard was 22/38 for 235 yards, but he was able to score a late touchdown on the ground and finished with five attempts for 30 yards and the score. He also lost two fumbles. The third-round pick should have an easier matchup with the Eagles next Sunday, but he's not a fantasy option as the Niners look for their first win of the season.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

C.J. Beathard takes over as the starting quarterback for the 49ers.

The third-round rookie from Iowa was inserted into the game for veteran Brian Hoyer in the second quarter against the Redskins, and he flashed throughout the game while giving a jolt to San Francisco. With Beathard in control, the 49ers almost took down the Redskins but came up short on a potential go-ahead field goal drive at the end of the game. Beathard was 19/36 for 245 yards, on touchdown, on interception, and a 14-yard carry. He showed his ability to rip throws down the middle of the field and just looked like he was ready to play. The rookie will have ten games to show what he can do for the 0-6 49ers, who could be in the market for a quarterback this offseason.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

C.J. Beathard outruns the defense in preseason finale.

Beathard continued to impress, but in a different way, as he rushed for a 62-yard score against the Chargers. He finished with three carries for 80 yards and was 5/9 for 31 yards passing. Brian Hoyer is locked-in as the starter for the Niners, but Beathard could make some late-season starts if the team falls out of contention as expected.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

C.J. Beathard was 7/12 for 110 yards and one touchdown in the 49ers' preseason loss to Denver.

Beathard connected with tight end George Kittle on the score from 29 yards out. A third-round pick in April's draft, Beathard was a guy San Francisco targeted due to his experience in a pro-style offense. Brian Hoyer is locked-in as the starter, but the rookie will likely be starting at some point in 2017.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

C.J. Beathard plays great in NFL preseason debut.

The third-round rookie from Iowa was 7/11 for 101 yards and two touchdowns. He showed good pocket presence and escaped pressure—especially on his 44-yard touchdown throw in the third quarter, which he threw on the run after evading and scrambling to his left. The Niners obviously selected Beathard in the draft because they like him, so don't be surprised if he challenges Matt Barkley for the backup job behind Brian Hoyer.

C.J. Beathard | Jaguars QB

The 49ers take a quarterback, select Iowa QB C.J. Beathard with the 104th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Beathard has experience in a pro-style system at Iowa, with his best season coming as a junior in 2015 when he threw for 2,809 yards, 17 touchdowns, and five interceptions. The Niners will try to develop Beathard, and at the very least he could turn into a really solid backup.
