WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Coby Fleener | Free Agent TE

Coby Fleener wants to continue his playing career if he gets fully healthy, according to Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport says before Fleener's release, he was still getting treatment in the Saints building for the final concussion he suffered last season. Considering Fleener suffered the concussion in late November and was placed on injured reserve, getting treatment over five months later isn't a great sign. Unfortunately, Fleener might not play in the NFL again, but hopefully he gets to 100% soon and then can think about what he wants to do.

The Saints have released tight end Coby Fleener, according to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe.

Fleener signed a lucrative five-year, $36 million deal with New Orleans in 2016, but he only lasted two years with the team, totaling 72 receptions for 926 yards and five touchdowns. The former second-round pick turns 30 in September and has the talent to land somewhere soon, but it will be interesting to see if he decides to continue playing after dealing with a few concussions throughout his career. It's currently difficult to see a landing spot that would be able to turn Fleener into a fantasy contributor in 2018.

Coby Fleener (concussion) won't play this week, according to Ian Rapoport.

Fleener took a big hit to the head from Rams cornerback Blake Countess in Sunday's loss, and Rapoport says this could be a multi-week absence. Fleener wasn't on the fantasy radar, so there's not much of an impact there. But real life is the most important situation right now anyway, and we hope Fleener is feeling better soon.

Coby Fleener catches one pass in Week 12 loss.

It went for eight yards, and Fleener stayed in the game after a hit to the head, but he was later checked for and diagnosed with a concussion. Hopefully Fleener can recover in time for next week's big game against Carolina, but he isn't a fantasy option.

Coby Fleener leads the Saints in Week 11 receiving.

Fleener was targeted heavily toward the end of the game with the Saints attempting to stage a comeback, which they successfully did. Fleener caught five of five targets for 91 yards in the win, and it was by far his highest receiving total of the season. He's too volatile to be a recommended fantasy option right now, though.

Coby Fleener was not targeted in Week 10.

The Saints ran the ball almost twice as much as they passed it, but Fleener didn't see any passes in this one. After a touchdown in Weeks 1 and 2, Fleener hasn't put up big numbers. He's not a recommended fantasy option right now.

Coby Fleener gets one target in Week 8.

Fleener caught his lone target, but it went for -1 yards. The Saints aren't utilizing their tight ends much right now, and Fleener doesn't need to be on fantasy rosters.

Coby Fleener caught two passes for 22 yards in Sunday's win.

Fleener has now been held out of the end zone for four-straight games since scoring in Week 1 and Week 2. He's also been held to 22 yards or less in each of those games, as Brandon Coleman is getting some of the looks that Fleener fantasy owners might want him to get. He's not a reliable option against Chicago in Week 8.

Coby Fleener | Free Agent TE

Coby Fleener doesn't get targeted in Week 6.

Drew Brees only threw the ball 31 times compared to 37 rushing attempts by the team, but it's still concerning Fleener didn't draw any targets against the Lions. He needs to be left out of fantasy lineups until his playing time increases, as he appeared to receive less snaps than Michael Hoomanawanui in the game.

Coby Fleener | Free Agent TE

Coby Fleener catches two passes in Week 4.

Fleener had 21 yards on his two receptions. The Saints have a bye in Week 5, but Fleener will be on the TE1 map for Week 6.

Coby Flenner held to one catch in Sunday's win over Carolina.

It went for 21 yards, as the Saints played ahead and ended up winning 34-13. Fleener is in a big bounce back spot next Sunday against the Dolphins, as they are not good at all against opposing tight ends. Get him in lineups if you own him and pick him up if you need help at the position and he's available.

Coby Fleener scores in Week 2 loss.

Fleener caught three passes for 33 yards, including a four-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. He now has eight catches and two scores through two games as he heads into a matchup with Carolina, whom he found the end zone against in both games a season ago. Fleener is a low-end TE1 option with the position looking really banged up.

Coby Fleener scores in Saints' Week 1 loss.

The touchdown came in the fourth quarter and was the Saints' only touchdown against the Vikings. He had five receptions for 54 yards and the touchdown in the game. The TD came on a nice high-point grab in the end zone on a perfect throw from Drew Brees, who as usual had his seam throw working. Fleener has some definite post-hype breakout potential in 2017, and he'll try to keep it going next week against New England.

Coby Fleener plays in preseason finale.

He caught a nine-yard pass. It was a bit surprising to see Fleener play with the rest of the starters out, and it could give fantasy owners thinking about taking him late some pause. He probably isn't worth drafting.

With three catches for 38 yards in finale, Fleener ends disappointing first season with New Orleans.

Coby Fleener finishes the year with 50 receptions for 631 yards and three touchdowns. Almost everyone expected a big year from Fleener after he signed with the Saints and Drew Brees, but it didn't happen. Fleener has a chance to have a bigger season next year, but shouldn't be drafted as anything more than a backend TE1.

Coby Fleener | Free Agent TE

Fleener catches two passes in Saints' win.

They went for 10 yards. At least it was an improvement on his six yards from Week 14. Fleener will again be a volatile option next week against the Bucs, but at least the game is in New Orleans.

Coby Fleener | Free Agent TE

Fleener held to one catch for six yards in loss to Tampa Bay.

He was targeted three times. Fleener is a volatile option in this offense, and is probably going to have another dud next week against Arizona's elite defense. Keep him out of your lineup.

Coby Fleener | Free Agent TE

Coby Fleener leads Saints in receiving on Sunday.

Fleener caught five passes for 86 yards. He saw seven targets compared to just two for Josh Hill. Fleener is the tight end to own in New Orleans, but isn't exactly a reliable weekly option with Drew Brees spreading the ball around so much. The Saints play the Bucs in Week 14.

Coby Fleener | Free Agent TE

Coby Fleener caught four passes for 59 yards against the Rams in Week 12.

It was a good day for Fleener, as he caught all four of his targets. He hasn't had a double digit fantasy day since Week 6, but is a back-end TE1 because of his potential with Drew Brees as his quarterback. He can be in your lineup in Week 13 if you need a tight end. The Saints are at home, where Fleener has had his two biggest games of the season.

Coby Fleener | Free Agent TE

Fleener's night saved by touchdown catch.

The tight end caught three passes for 17 yards, including an 8-yard score. It was an absolute perfectly placed pass by Drew Brees in between two defenders. Despite the score, Fleener is falling off the TE1 map.

Coby Fleener | Free Agent TE

Coby Fleener quiet again in Sunday's loss.

Fleener caught two passes for 26 yards, giving him four straight games with 44 yards or less and no touchdowns. He's not exactly a reliable weekly option, but can be used as a low-floor, high-upside option. Fleener caught six passes for 74 yards and one touchdown (and even rushed for a touchdown) the last time the Saints faced the Panthers, but Carolina just held Travis Kelce in check. Fleener is a back-end TE1 for Thursday night.
