WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Dalton Schultz | Cowboys TE

The Cowboys are placing the franchise tag on Dalton Schultz, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Schultz would have almost certainly gotten a hefty long-term deal on the open market following a breakout campaign, but Dallas still could extend him with a multi-year contract. The former Stanford standout is the third tight end to be given the franchise tag over the past two days (along with David Njoku and Mike Gesicki), so teams hoping for a big upgrade at the position may have to turn to the draft—where there are notably quite a few promising options. Schultz should be a strong TE1 option in 2022 on a high-powered passing attack and entering the season as the clear top option at the position for the Cowboys.

Dalton Schultz catches one pass in Cowboys' playoff loss.

Schultz gained 20 yards on his lone reception in the Divisional Round loss to the Rams. The rookie fourth-round pick will look to carve out a bigger role in his second NFL season, but as of now it doesn't look like he'll be a recommended selection in 2019 fantasy drafts.

Dalton Schultz catches one pass in Week 17.

Schultz gained 17 yards on his lone reception versus the Giants. Meanwhile, Blake Jarwin put up a monster 7/119/3 line and is Dallas' top tight end entering the postseason. Schultz's rookie regular season ends with 12 receptions for 116 yards. He'll look to find the end zone sometime in January during a playoff run.

Dalton Schultz catches three passes in Week 15.

Schultz gained 23 yards in the Cowboy's loss to the Colts. The rookie tight end has three receptions in each of the last two weeks, which is a positive sign; but he's difficult to trust in fantasy lineups at the moment.

Dalton Schultz catches three passes against the Eagles.

Schultz gained 37 yards on his three receptions in the Cowboys' Week 14 win. This is a career-high for the rookie tight end, who remains just a dynasty-league option for now.

It went for seven yards, and Schultz was targeted twice. The rookie mostly excels as a blocker for the Cowboys with just five receptions so far this year.

Dalton Schultz catches one pass for -1 yard in Week 12.

Schultz is not a recommended fantasy option and does not currently have to be owned in fantasy leagues.

Dalton Schultz | Cowboys TE

Dalton Schultz caught two passes for 21 yards in the Cowboys' 27-20 win over the Eagles.

Schultz had just one reception entering the game, but he grabbed both of his targets in a huge victory for Dallas. The rookie is just a prospect in dynasty leagues right now, but we'll see if he can make some plays next week against the Falcons.

Dalton Schultz catches one pass against the Redskins

Schultz gained 12 yards on his lone reception in the Week 7 loss. It was the first career reception for the fourth-round rookie tight end, so congrats to him on what will hopefully be the first of many throughout his career.

Dalton Schultz | Cowboys TE

The Cowboys have selected Stanford tight end Dalton Schultz with the 137th pick (fourth round) of the 2018 NFL Draft.

It was clear Dallas was going to draft a tight end at some point today following Jason Witten’s (probable) retirement, and they take the Stanford product with the final pick of the fourth round. Schultz wasn’t used much as a receiver for the Cardinal, but he is a solid blocker and could be a more productive pass-catcher at the next level. The cowboys have a few tight ends they apparently like, though, so Schultz might not start in 2018.
