WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

DeVonta Smith | Eagles WR

DeVonta Smith (knee) will take team reps in practice today.

Smith is making great progress from his MCL sprain, advancing from individual drills to team participation. If we don't see him for this Thursday's preseason game against the Patriots, we'd at least expect to see him for the Eagles' third and final preseason game. Barring a setback, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner will be ready to go for Week 1.

UPDATE: DeVonta Smith is expected to miss a couple of weeks, according to multiple reports.

ESPN's Adam Schefter says it's an MCL sprain for Smith, who is expected to miss two-to-three weeks. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport also reported earlier that it should be a couple of weeks for Smith. The Eagles are probably hoping Smith will be ready for Week 3 of the preseason, but they won't rush him back with an eye toward the regular season. This injury might prevent Smith's ADP from rising much this summer, but we'll see.

DeVonta Smith (knee) is week-to-week.

Smith was by all accounts off to a great start to his first NFL training camp, but this puts a halt to that. It's a knee sprain for the Heisman Trophy winner, but hopefully it's not something that puts Week 1 in jeopardy. Ideally, we'll be able to see Smith on the field for the Eagles' third preseason game in a few weeks.

DeVonta Smith | Eagles WR

The Eagles have selected Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Giving up a third-round pick to the Cowboys to up two spots and ahead of the Giants, the Eagles land someone many fans would have been happy with if they stayed up at No. 6. Concerns about Smith’s size caused him to fall to the end of the top ten, but we think that will end up turning out to be a mistake. The reigning Heisman winner never had issues versus strength or getting off the press at Alabama—where he caught the game-winning touchdown in the national championship as a true freshman, led the Crimson Tide in receiving on an offense with four first-round picks at receiver, and then went off for 117 receptions, 1,856 yards, and 23 touchdowns last season. In Philadelphia, Smith has the talent to immediately be the top option in the passing attack while working with former college teammate Jalen Hurts, but the real value will come in dynasty leagues due to the “experts” overlooking him as a top-flight prospect.
