WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Durham Smythe | Dolphins TE

The Dolphins are re-signing Durham Smythe to a two-year deal, according to Mike Gesicki.

The franchise-tagged tight end made it clear that he is the source of this news, and Smythe will be back in Miami as depth behind Gesicki for Mike McDaniel's new-look offense. Last season, the Notre Dame product quietly caught a career-high 34 passes for 357 yards, and the Dolphins have put a deeper overall group together so far this offseason.

Durham Smythe caught three passes for 14 yards in Sunday's loss to Buffalo.

Smythe was targeted four times, but none went for more than five yards. The 23-year-old rookie out of Notre Dame caught six passes for 50 yards this season, and he should enter 2019 as the No. 2 or No. 3 option behind Mike Gesicki.

Durham Smythe catches one pass in Week 16 loss.

It went for nine yards. The rookie can stay on the waiver wire.

Durham Smythe | Dolphins TE

Durham Smythe caught two passes for 27 yards in Sunday's loss to the Colts.

Smythe was targeted just twice, but he ended up leading the position as Mike Gesicki struggled with one reception and a lost fumble. The Notre Dame product won't be a recommended fantasy option in Week 13 against Buffalo.

The Dolphins have selected Notre Dame tight end Durham Smythe with the 123rd pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Miami went with a tight end last night when they selected Mike Gesicki out of Penn State, and Adam Gase gets another target with Smythe. Gesicki will be more of a move tight end, while Smythe will be asked to block more, so he probably won’t be a fantasy contributor in 2018.
