WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Griff Whalen | Free Agent WR

Griff Whalen has turf toe.

Jon Gruden says Whalen could miss a couple of weeks, and Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal believes he could be a candidate for an injury settlement. The trade of Ryan Switzer earlier today could indicate Oakland is prepared to keep Whalen on the roster, though. Either way, Whalen is not a recommended fantasy option in standard-sized leagues.

The MRI on Griff Whalen's foot was negative.

Whalen left last night's preseason game with a toe injury and was seen with a walking boot after the game, but it apparently isn't too serious. Whalen might miss the team's final preseason game this week, though. He's off the fantasy radar, but he's battling for a roster spot in Oakland.

Griff Whalen left last night's preseason game with a toe injury.

Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal says the X-Rays were negative, so hopefully the injury isn't anything serious. Whalen was in a walking boot after the game, but it could have been precautionary. And MRI might be the next step of the injury evaluation.

Griff Whalen is pushing for the starting slot job for the Raiders.

With Seth Roberts missing recent recent practices and Martavis Bryant missing a couple of practices with headaches, Whalen has taken advantage of more reps in the slot. Jon Gruden says "Whalen has stepped up. He earned that right. He's doing some great things," and he called the slot position "very competitive." Amari Cooper and Jordy Nelson are locked into the top two receiver spots for the Raiders, but with Roberts, Bryant, Whalen, and Ryan Switzer, there are a few options for the primary third receiver spot.

The Raiders are signing wide receiver Griff Whalen, according to Ian Rapoport.

This appears to be the first deal of the legal tampering window this year, but it won't be official until Wednesday at 4:00 PM ET. Whalen can contribute on both offense and special teams as a returner, and he could have his biggest offensive role yet with the Raiders if they give him a chance to compete in the slot as the third receiver behind Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree. At the very least, he'll give Oakland some more depth.

Griff Whalen catches four passes against Minnesota.

This was Whalen's first game with the Ravens, as he was signed during the week, and the team needed him after Mike Wallace left the game with a concussion. Whalen picked up 23 yards on his four receptions, and he could see another handful of targets go his way on Thursday night if Wallace, Jeremy Maclin (shoulder), and Breshad Perriman (concussion) are all out again. There are probably better fantasy options out there, though.

The Ravens signed WR Griff Whalen.

Whalen was with the team during training camp, and now he's back. With Jeremy Maclin dealing with a shoulder injury, it's possible Whalen is active this week in his first game back with the team. He's not a recommended fantasy option, though.
