WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Jake Fromm | Free Agent QB

The Giants are signing Jake Fromm.

Fromm is going from the Bills practice squad to the Giants active roster, and it's an interesting addition. Fromm really didn't have much of a path in Buffalo behind Josh Allen, but we really liked him coming out of Georgia a couple of drafts ago. He'll now look to develop in New York.

The Bills are signing Jake Fromm to the practice squad, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Fromm not being claimed by a quarterback-needy team was the biggest surprise of the day, but Buffalo is bringing him back—and general manager Brandon Beane has said it won't be as a "COVID quarterback" like last year. We would guess the Bills are hoping to have Fromm continue to progress and be the long-term No. 2 behind Josh Allen with Mitchell Trubisky on a one-year deal.

The Bills released Jake Fromm.

Fromm played very well this preseason, but the Bills have decided to keep just two quarterbacks and apparently couldn't find any trade partners for the second-year quarterback. The Bills will almost certainly try to bring Fromm back on the practice squad, but other teams will have a shot at the Georgia product on waivers.

Jake Fromm | Free Agent QB

The Bills have selected Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm with the No. 167 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

In three years as the starter for the Bulldogs, Fromm completed 63.3% of his passes for 8,236 yards, 78 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions while helping lead the team to three SEC East titles (including an SEC championship victory in 2017), a Rose Bowl victory, and a national championship appearance as a true freshman. You can read our full scouting report for Fromm in the link below, but he works through progressions as well as any quarterback prospect in recent memory, and the “flaws” sound similar to question marks about Tom Brady and Drew Brees entering the league. Notably, Fromm forced both Jacob Eason and 2021 potential top-five pick Justin Fields to transfer because neither guy could beat him out for the starting job in college, so it would be unwise to overlook him despite coming off the board on Day 3. Remember, two current starters (Jarrett Stidham and Gardner Minshew) were drafted on the draft’s final day just last year, and there is a decent chance the entire league missed on Fromm—who Buffalo likely deemed too good of a value to pass up despite a strong quarterback room. From a fantasy perspective, Fromm will be a low-ceiling option if he ends up on the field early in his career, but now would be the time to invest in dynasty leagues.
