The Jaguars released Jonathan Grimes.

The former Texan was stuck in a crowded backfield with Jacksonville, so he was facing a difficult battle for a roster spot. He should get a chance somewhere else, whether it's soon or down the road a few weeks from now.

Jonathan Grimes scores in preseason game for the Jaguars.

The sixth-year back had three carries for 13 yards and a touchdown while adding a six-yard reception. The touchdown could've tied the game with the extra point, but Jacksonville went for two to try and take the lead late in the fourth quarter. Grimes is a versatile back that played pretty well when given opportunities the last few seasons with the Texans, but he's probably on the outside looking in for a roster spot in Jacksonville.
