WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith (shoulder) is officially active for Thursday night.

This was expected after Smith traveled with the team yesterday. Smith is back after missing just one game with his shoulder issue. The versatile tight end will work in tandem with Hunter Henry in the Patriots offense versus the Falcons.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith (shoulder) is questionable for Thursday night.

Smith traveling with the team is a sign that he will hopefully be good to go, but we'll get an answer tomorrow night before kickoff. Although Hunter Henry has firmly established himself as the go-to tight end for the Pats, Smith can still be an important part of the offense—though he brings better real-life value than fantasy value right now.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith (shoulder) inactive for Week 10.

Smith will be out along with Damien Harris (concussion) on offense, and this news should give Hunter Henry and Brandon Bolden boosts in the passing game. The Patriots have a quick turnaround with a Thursday night game coming up, so we'll see if Smith can be healthy in a few days.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith (shoulder) is questionable to return.

Smith could be done for the day with New England up rather handily over Carolina in the fourth quarter. The Patriots will take on the Browns next Sunday.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith (shoulder) is questionable to return for the Patriots.

Smith is having a nice game with two receptions for 52 yards to this point, so we'll see if he's able to get back out there late in the second half or when the second half begins for New England.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith has a sprained ankle.

It's thankfully a low-ankle sprain for Smith, and ESPN's Mike Reiss says "it isn't considered a serious injury" based on the initial evaluation. This is good news after Smith limped off this morning at Patriots practice, and we wouldn't think his Week 1 is in jeopardy. However, Smith's preseason might be done if he can't get to 100% in the next couple of weeks.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith is signing with the Patriots.

This was one of the most predictable potential partnerships ahead of free agency, and it came together quickly with Smith and New England agreeing to a four-year, $50 million deal within an hour of the legal tampering period opening. Coming off a career-best 41/448/8 line in his fourth season with the Titans, Smith is one of this year’s most intriguing free agents. The 25-year-old is very athletic and versatile (even playing some running back for Tennessee), and his role in the Patriots figures to be a very big one with the money they are paying him.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith will not be franchise-tagged, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Smith joins Hunter Henry as a big-time tight end hitting the open market, and it wouldn't be a surprise if most teams view him as the top overall target at the position this offseason (excluding Florida standout Kyle Pitts). The Bills and Jaguars are potential fits, but New England would be perhaps the most exciting destination considering how much Smith has been talked up by Bill Belichick in the past. An increased receiving role would have fantasy owners more confident about Smith as a strong TE1.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith (knee) has been ruled out for Week 13.

Smith didn't practice all week, so this isn't a surprise. The dynamic tight end hasn't been highly productive lately, and his knee has likely been limiting him. Hopefully he's back and close to full strength soon.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith (ankle) is expected to be questionable for Week 7.

ESPN's Adam Schefter says Smith is dealing with a "minor" ankle sprain and is likely to be questionable for Sunday against the Jaguars. Expect limited practice time for Smith this week, and we'll let you know if anything changes about his status. The final Week 7 injury report will be out on Friday, when Smith is expected to be officially listed as questionable.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith (knee) is returning to practice.

Smith injured his knee last December and showed some flashes, but Delanie Walker is back this season, and the Titans added Adam Humphries and A.J. Brown at receiver. Consider the former third-round pick a dynasty investment right now.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith (knee) is on the PUP list to start training camp.

Smith's status for the start of training camp was up in the air, so this isn't a surprise. Coming off a knee injury suffered in December, Smith didn't practice all offseason. Meanwhile, Titans' starting tight end Delanie Walker is not on the PUP list to start camp.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official website isn't sure Jonnu Smith (knee) will be ready for Week 1.

Wyatt writes that he believes Delanie Walker (leg) will be ready for the start of the season, but adds: "At this point, I can’t speak as confidently about Jonnu. He hasn’t practiced all offseason after last year’s injury, and coach Vrabel hasn’t provided any insight on his condition." Smith reportedly suffered an MCL injury early last December, so it's a bit of a surprise that his season-opener status is in doubt. Hopefully Smith will get on the field at some point early during training camp, which would help put concerns about his injury to rest.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith (knee) is out for the season.

ESPN's Adam Schefter says it's an MCL injury for Smith. It's an unfortunate end to the seat for the second-year tight end, who had touchdowns in three of the last five games before leaving last night's win over the Jaguars. Smith's season ends with 20 receptions for 258 yards and three touchdowns. The Titans are now down their top two tight ends, as Delanie Walker has already been out for the season. Anthony Firkser and Luke Stocker will be the primary two tight ends for Tennessee moving forward for the rest of the year.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith (knee) has been ruled out for the Titans.

This isn't surprising after Smith didn't return during the first half. Hopefully the second-year tight end doesn't miss much longer than tonight, but it's not a great sign that he wasn't able to return to tonight's game.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith (knee) is officially questionable to return against the Jaguars.

It's a knee injury for Smith, who will hopefully be able to get back in the game with still over a half to go.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith caught two passes for 29 yards in Sunday's win over the Jets.

Smith was targeted three times, but fellow tight end Anthony Firkser (3/42/1) was more productive on the same number of looks. Fantasy owners should probably look elsewhere for Week 14 against Jacksonville.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith catches 61-yard touchdown in loss to the Texans.

Smith was able to take advantage of a busted coverage in the first quarter and sprint for six after catching a pass near the line-of-scrimmage, and he finished with two receptions for 63 yards and the score. The second-year tight end has come on this month with lines of 2/33/1, 3/45/1, 6/44, and 2/63/1, so he needs to be taken seriously as a streaming option down the stretch for an offense that needs playmakers. The Titans take on the Jets next Sunday.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith catches six passes against the Colts.

Smith was targeted a team-high eight times in the Titans' Week 11 loss, gaining 44 yards on his six receptions The six catches set a new career-high for the second-year tight end, as he appears to be getting more comfortable in the offense. Smith will look to keep it going in a nice matchup against the Texans next week.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith scores in Week 10.

Smith caught all three targets against the Patriots, gaining 45 yards with a touchdown in the Titans' win. The score was on a play-action roll out for four yards, and he also had 29-yard reception in the game. This is two straight weeks with a touchdown for Smith, who has matched his reception total from the first seven weeks of the season in that span. Smith is in streaming consideration for Week 11 against the Colts.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith scores in Titans' win.

Smith caught a shuffle pass on a nicely-designed play by the Titans. Overall, Smith caught two passes for 33 yards and a touchdown. This was the second-year tight end's first touchdown reception of the season and his seventh catch overall this season, so he's not a fantasy option right now. He'll look to have a bigger second half of the year, though.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith catches two passes against the Chargers.

Smith gained 11 yards on his two receptions (three targets) in the Week 7 loss. The second-year tight end hasn't put up big numbers with Delaine Walker out, so he's not a recommended fantasy option yet.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith catches lone target against Baltimore.

Smith's reception went for 12 yards. Despite Dealing Walker's season-ending leg injury, last year's third-round pick hasn't made a big impact as a receiver yet this season.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith held without a catch in loss to the Bills.

Smith was targeted twice in a 13-12 defeat. The second-year tight end had an ugly drop last week, and he simply hasn't stepped up with Delanie Walker (ankle) done for the year. Smith isn't a recommended fantasy option heading into a matchup with the Ravens in Week 6.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith doesn't catch a pass in Tennessee's win over the Eagles.

The second-year tight end had a bad drop on a would-be first down in the first half, and he wasn't a factor the rest of the way. Delanie Walker has been a big loss for the Titans, but they are sitting at 3-1. Right now, a breakout for Smith looks unlikely in 2018.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith catches one pass in Titans' win.

Smith gained nine yards on his lone reception versus Jacksonville. The second-year tight end has upside, but he's very difficult to trust in fantasy lineups right now.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith doesn't get a target in Week 2.

It appeared Smith played most of the game as the primary tight end for the Titans in the first game without Delanie Walker, but he wasn't targeted in the passing game. Smith is best left out of fantasy lineups for now.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith catches 12-yard pass in loss to the Dolphins.

It was his only reception of the game, but Smith could have an extended role for the rest of 2018 after Delanie Walker suffered what appears to be a season-ending leg injury. The former third-round pick isn't a must-own yet, but his dynasty stock has increased, and he is worth a look in deeper leagues. Smith will get his first shot to make an impact next Sunday against Houston.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith leaves playoff game with apparent lower leg injury.

Smith was just rolled up on during a kick return for the Titans, and he's been carted to the locker room. Before leaving, the rookie tight end had one reception for four yards, and it doesn't look like he'll be able to return tonight. We should learn more about Smith's injury in the coming days, but hopefully it isn't anything too serious.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith catches two passes in playoff win against the Chiefs.

Smith gained 15 yards on his two receptions (four targets), but he did have a bad drop on a pass over the middle that thankfully didn't come back to hurt the Titans in the Wild Card victory. He'll chip in on offense in the Divisional Round against the Patriots or Steelers next weekend.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith gets three targets against the Jaguars.

The rookie tight end caught all three targets, gaining 12 yards. On the season, Smith had 18 receptions for 157 yards and two touchdowns, and he'll chip in on offense during the postseason.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith catches one pass in Titans' loss.

Smith was targeted twice against the Rams, gaining 13 yards on his lone reception. The rookie tight end is only a dynasty league option right now.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith gets one target in Week 11.

Smith didn't catch his lone target in the game. The rookie tight end has a bright future, but his role isn't big enough to be a fantasy option right now.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith gets five targets against the Bengals.

Smith caught two passes for 20 yards in the Titans win. The rookie tight end is a very good dynasty league option, but he's not a reliable standard league option at the moment.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith caught two passes for 22 yards in Sunday's win over the Browns.

Smith isn't a fantasy option in redraft leagues. The Titans will take on the Ravens after a Week 8 bye.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith catches one pass in Week 6.

Smith caught a ten-yarder over the middle to help the Titans set up a more manageable third-down situation. The rookie tight end is a great dynasty league target, but he's not a reliable fantasy option in standard leagues yet.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith catches all five targets against the Dolphins.

Smith gained only 21 yards on his five receptions, but he was a reliable target for Matt Cassel in the game. The rookie tight end had a pass interference call that wiped out a 59-yard touchdown by Delanie Walker, but the call was debatable. Smith gets the Colts in Week 6.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith scores again in Week 3.

The rookie tight end scored his second touchdown in consecutive weeks, as he caught a wheel route for a 24-yard touchdown against the Seahawks. It looked to be a Cover 3 that Smith was wide open on for the easy touchdown. Smith is doing a great job as a rookie, but he's not yet a fantasy option.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith catches first career touchdown.

Smith caught two passes for 30 yards, including a 32-yard score, in the 37-16 win over Jacksonville. The rookie tight end isn't a standard league option with Delanie Walker ahead of him and healthy, but his dynasty stock is pointing up.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Jonnu Smith gets team high in targets in exhibition against Carolina.

The Titans rookie tight end caught five-of-seven targets for 47 yards. If he isn't already, Smith will likely be the second tight end behind Delanie Walker soon. Smith definitely looks a bit like Walker out there, someone that was a comparison for him when he entered the draft. He's definitely someone to roster in dynasty leagues as the heir apparent to Walker.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

Titans tight end Delanie Walker talks up rookie Jonnu Smith.

According to The Tennessean, Walker said "one day he will be better than me." Walker didn't just mean that eventually Smith will take over as the Titans' lead tight end, as Walker also said Smith will be a "star" in the NFL. The third-round tight end has gotten great reviews from the spring practices, and he should have a solid role as a rookie. While he might not have much fantasy value this season with Delanie Walker in front of him, he's a testament to how deep the Titans have gotten at the skill positions this offseason.

Jonnu Smith | Patriots TE

The Titans select Florida International tight end Jonnu Smith with the 100th pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Smith has good size and speed as a receiving tight end. He had 42 catches for 506 yards and four touchdowns downs during his final season at FIU. Smith has potential to grow as a receiver and put up some good numbers in his career, but probably not as a rookie. The Titans continue to add weapons for Marcus Mariota.
