Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

The Texans released Josh McCown.

This isn't a surprise for the veteran quarterback, who is expected to get into coaching soon after he was a reserve option for the Eagles and Texans during the COVID-impacted season last year. Many believe McCown is a future head coach.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown is signing with the Texans.

McCown has been essentially operating as a half coach, half player with the Eagles this year, but he's jumping at the opportunity to sign with Houston—which could be partly due to an easier commute while juggling responsibilities as a high school football coach. The veteran should be a great help for Deshaun Watson in the quarterback room.

The Eagles are signing Josh McCown to the practice squad, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

McCown—like all veteran players—is eligible for the practice squad with this year’s rule changes for COVID-19, and he will be able continue serving as an experienced voice in the quarterback room.

Josh McCown tore his hamstring off the bone, according to multiple reports.

McCown really toughed it out for the Eagles in their Wild Card loss to the Seahawks last Sunday, as he was limping around badly as their only remaining quarterback following Carson Wentz's unfortunate concussion in the first quarter. McCown is expected to retire this offseason, but he'll reportedly be out for several months after surgery if he does return to the field for the 2020 season.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown is coming out of retirement and signing a one-year deal with the Eagles, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

McCown was hired by ESPN after retiring earlier this year, but injuries to Nate Sudfeld (wrist) and Cody Kessler (concussion) led to the perfect situation for a return, so he will push back his television duties for what will be his final season in 2019. The Eagles know they need a reliable backup behind Carson Wentz, and in McCown, they get a starting-caliber quarterback that won't have any trouble learning the offense. Ideally, McCown won't see the field this season, but this signing could mean that Sudfeld is placed on IR to free up a roster spot.

Josh McCown has officially retired from the NFL.

After 17 seasons in the NFL with ten different teams, the veteran quarterback is calling it a career. This was expected after McCown needed more time to think about continuing his career while the Jets basically had no choice but to move forward without him in their plans. McCown started his career with the Cardinals after he was taken in the third round of the 2002 draft, and then he appeared in games for the Lions, Raiders, Panthers, Bears, Buccaneers, Browns, and Jets. After the initial opportunity in Arizona, McCown's biggest opportunities came late in his career, including in Chicago where he played exceptionally well in 2013 under Marc Trestman (throwing for 13 touchdowns compared to one interception in eight games). McCown gave the Jets some energy as a 13-game starter in 2017, and then he was great mentor for No. 3 overall pick Sam Darnold last season. For his career, McCown played in 99 games (76 starts) and threw for 17,707 yards with 82 touchdowns and 80 interceptions, along with 246 carries for 1,108 yards (4.5 yards per carry) and 13 rushing touchdowns. We wish McCown, who seems to be one of the most well-liked players around the league, the best of luck on his post-playing career.

Josh McCown goes 0/1 in Week 14.

McCown briefly entered the game for Sam Darnold (foot), but Darnold was thankfully able to return. Now back to the backup role with Darnold back after missing three games, the veteran McCown will continue being an excellent presence for the rookie quarterback.

Josh McCown struggles as New York falls to 3-9.

McCown was 17/30 for 128 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception, also adding a three-yard rush in a 26-22 loss to Tennessee. The veteran got another start in place of Sam Darnold (foot), but it sounds like the rookie will hopefully be back for the final quarter of the season. No matter who is under center next week, fantasy owners should look elsewhere heading into a matchup against the Bills in Buffalo.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown is off the Week 13 injury report.

McCown was a limited participant in yesterday's practice because of hand and back injuries, but he's ready to go for Sunday against the Titans. However, Sam Darnold (foot, questionable) might be able to start, in which case McCown would head back to the bench. McCown isn't a recommended fantasy option anyway.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown (back/hand) was limited in today's practice.

McCown is probably fine, but his injuries are worth noting with Sam Darnold inching closer to a return from his foot injury. Check back in tomorrow for the official Week 13 game statuses for the two quarterbacks.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown throws one touchdown against the Patriots.

With Sam Darnold (foot) still out, McCown drew a second straight start. The veteran quarterback went 26/45 for 276 yards, one touchdown, and one interception along with three carries for 25 yards in the Week 12 loss. The score was a 16-yarder to Jermaine Kearse; and the interception came on a deep ball attempt to Robby Anderson, which Stephon Gilmore stepped in front of at the end zone. McCown seems likely to start again next week, but he's not a recommended fantasy option against a stingy Titans defense.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown struggles in Jets' loss.

In the veteran quarterback's first start of the season with Sam Darnold (foot) out, he had a tough matchup against a Bills defense that played very well. McCown was 17/34 for 135 yards and two interceptions along with one carry for four yards in the Week 10 loss. The Jets now have a bye week, and McCown won't be a highly-recommended fantasy option if he starts against the Patriots in Week 12.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown has re-signed with the Jets on a one-year, $10-million contract.

There has been talk all day about New York going after Teddy Bridgewater, but McCown is a veteran presence that they know is a great guy to have around—not to mention he played really well last season. Signing the soon-to-be 39-year-old doesn't necessarily preclude the Jets from still going after Teddy, though, as Bridgewater is still just 25 and could be seen similarly to some of the top quarterback prospects in this year's draft. McCown's spot on the depth chart this fall will depend on what else the Jets do in the coming days and weeks.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown will undergo surgery on his broken left hand and miss the remainder of the season.

McCown broke his non-throwing hand in Sunday's loss to the Broncos, and his season will end after surgery. The 38-year-old exceeded expectations in 2017, as he led a New York team that people thought would be contending for the first-overall pick to a 5-8 record, and he set career-highs across the board by completing 67.3% of his passes for 2,926 yards, 18 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. The quarterback market will be unprecedented this offseason between the draft, free agency, and players potentially available via trade, but McCown certainly has a case to be a starter for the Jets or someone else in 2018 if he wants to continue playing. Bryce Petty will likely start the final three games for New York, which is a huge downgrade to the skill-position players.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown has a broken left hand.

Despite the injury being to his non-throwing hand, McCown's season is likely over with three weeks to go in the year. McCown had a very good season for the Jets, helping win a handful of games for a team that many thought would be among the worst in the NFL. Hopefully we see McCown again this season, but it's possible he's sent to Injured Reserve in the next few days.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown (left wrist) has been ruled out against Denver.

The injury was initially called a hand injury, but now it's being called a wrist. McCown might be dealing with a fracture of some sort, but hopefully it's not that bad. Before leaving, McCown was only 6/12 for 46 yards and an interception, as the Broncos have actually been playing well in pass defense today.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown (hand) is questionable to return against the Broncos.

McCown suffered the injury to his left non-throwing hand, which is a positive sign, but there's still a chance his day is done. Bryce Petty is now in the game for the Jets.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown keeps up great play in Jets' win over the Chiefs.

The veteran quarterback continues to help Todd Bowles' team defy expectations this season, as the Week 13 victory got the Jets to 5-7 on the season. McCown was 26/36 for 331 yards and a touchdown through the air, while also adding seven carries for 19 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. The Jets were right at the goal line a couple of times, and they tried a few quarterback sneaks, which really helped McCown have an excellent fantasy day in addition to his excellent real-life play. The passing score was on an in-breaking route to Matt Forte, who made a nice play by stretching the ball across the goal line. Considering the Broncos have been terrible this season, a hot McCown actually won't be a bad option against them in Week 14.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown tosses three touchdowns but Jets fall to 4-7.

McCown played a very good game against a tough Panthers defense, going 19/36 for 307 yards and three touchdowns along with two carries for 28 yards. However, he did lose a fumble on a sack that was returned for a touchdown by Luke Kuechly. But throughout the game, McCown used his athleticism and made great throws, including two deep touchdowns to Robby Anderson—one coming on an absolute dime to the end zone and the other coming on a scramble where McCown directed Anderson to run down the field and hit him with a perfect strike for a 54-yarder. The final touchdown for McCown was a short one to Jermaine Kearse. The veteran quarterback appears to be feeling it right now, and he's an intriguing streaming option against the Chiefs in Week 13.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown, Jets offense struggles in loss to the Bucs.

McCown was 23/39 for 262 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the 15-10 defeat. New York had a chance to get to 5-5 and position themselves for a playoff run following a Week 11 bye, but they were held to three points for most of the afternoon. McCown won't be a recommended fantasy option when they face the Panthers in two weeks.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown plays well in Jets' win.

The Jets now might have about as many wins as many expected coming into the year, as McCown helped lead his team to its fourth win of the season with tonight's victory over Buffalo. McCown played efficient and helped keep the offense moving, going 14/20 for 140 yards and a touchdown while also adding five carries for 13 yards and a touchdown. The first score was on the ground, as he scrambled for an easy ten-yard touchdown in the first quarter. And the passing touchdown was on a nice 25-yard throw to the end zone to Robby Anderson. McCown has now completed at least 70% of his passes in five of nine games this season, and he'll look to have another solid game against the Bucs (one of his former teams) in Week 10.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown, Jets play hard again in 25-20 loss to Atlanta.

McCown was 26/33 for 257 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He did fumble twice in a rainy game, but neither was lost. The veteran quarterback continues to impress, as he found Eric Tomlinson and Robby Anderson for scores of 20+ yards and did a nice job of moving the offense. New York is now a competitive 3-5, and McCown looks like a legitimate streaming option in the right matchups. That said, he should be on the waiver wire in a quick turnaround against the opportunistic Bills on Thursday night.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown plays well again but throws crucial interception in Week 7 loss.

McCown was 17/27 for 209 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception, which was a bad decision with the game tied at 28 deep in their own territory. It led to the game-winning field goal for Miami. Fantasy wise, though, McCown was great, as he also rushed a score on a quarterback sneak. The Jets will take on the struggling Falcons next Sunday, but Atlanta's recent offensive play makes McCown have lower upside as a streamer.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown was 31/47 for 354 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Patriots.

The Jets got out to a 14-0 lead, and they played New England tough all game, but a highly questionable touchdown reversal from Austin Seferian-Jenkins turned a score into a turnover and allowed the Patriots to stay up 24-14 and eventually get the win. New York is now 3-3, and McCown's play has been a big reason for their impressive start. They'll look to get their second win against the Dolphins this season and improve to 4-3 next Sunday. There are probably better fantasy options than McCown.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown leads Jets to 3-2 record with 17-14 victory over the Browns.

McCown was 23/30 for 194 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. That's three wins in a row for New York, and the veteran quarterback is playing well with limited skill-position players around him. McCown and the Jets host the Patriots in Week 6 with first place in the AFC East on the line. He's not a recommended fantasy option.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown does just enough to get Jets to 2-2 with overtime win over the Jaguars.

McCown was 22/31 for 224 yards and one interception. He also fumbled three times, losing one of them. New York threw it just as many times as they ran it, and two long touchdown runs helped them pick up their second win in as many weeks. McCown obviously isn't a fantasy option, but he's doing a decent job with limited talent around him. He'll look to upset the Steelers next Sunday.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown plays well as the Jets pickup their first win of the season.

McCown was 18/23 for 249 yards and a touchdown in his team's Week 3 win over Miami. The Jets took advantage when Dolphins cornerback Byron Maxwell (eye) left the game, as they hit a 69-yard bomb to Robby Anderson for a touchdown. McCown and the Jets are looking to get to 2-2 next week against Jacksonville.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown plays well in Jets' Week 2 loss.

The Jets got blown out, 45-20, to Oakland, but the offense performed fine in the game. McCown was 17/25 for 166 yards and two touchdowns, both to Jermaine Kearse. He also added four carries for 31 yards on the ground. McCown isn't a good fantasy option, but he's helping keep the offense afloat.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown throws two interceptions in Jets' Week 1 loss.

McCown was 26/39 for 187 yards and the two interceptions against the Bills. He did add a rushing touchdown on a quarterback sneak, and the Jets were in it for most of the game. Even in a potentially good matchup against Oakland in Week 2, you've got some guts if you want to take a chance on McCown in your fantasy lineup.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown finishes 6/8 in Jets' final preseason game.

McCown played a couple series versus the Eagles, including getting hurt and re-entering the game after missing one play. The veteran quarterback looked ready for the regular season, but it's be a surprise if he became a consistent fantasy option on a sub-par Jets team. The Jets play the Bills in Week 1 a week from Sunday.

UPDATE: Josh McCown returns to fourth preseason game.

McCown took a big hit from Eagles linebacker Joe Walker and left the field, but he came back after one play. He'll likely finish this drive and get out of the game so he's healthy for Week 1.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown gets injured in Jets' fourth preseason game.

McCown and the offensive starters for the Jets are playing in the final preseason game versus the Eagles, and unfortunately McCown was injured. He took a big shot to the midsection/ribs from linebacker Joe Walker and went on his knees before going to the sidelines and out of the game. Hopefully it's not too bad, as this would be one of the worst things that could happen for the Jets. Christian Hackenberg is now in the game for New York.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Jets head coach Todd Bowles officially named Josh McCown the team's starting quarterback.

This was very much expected, despite the team electing not to play McCown in the third preseason game. McCown is starting to open the year, but second-year quarterback Christian Hackenberg will likely make some starts this season. Given his experience, McCown is the best option for the fantasy value of the skill position players on the Jets. It'd be a surprise if McCown delivered solid fantasy value, though.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown leads Jets to TD on only drive of preseason opener.

McCown was 3/4 for 72 yards and a touchdown, including a 53-yard throw to Robby Anderson that was put right on the money. The touchdown came on a four-yard curl route to Charone Peake. McCown and the Jets face the Lions next Saturday for Week 2 of the preseason.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Jets head coach Todd Bowles said there will be an "open competition" at quarterback.

Josh McCown, Bryce Petty, and last year's second-rounder Christian Hackenberg. Ideally, Hackenberg or Petty would step up and snatch the job in training camp. Bowles also did not rule out taking a quarterback in the draft and having them start. It's unlikely any of these quarterbacks becomes a good fantasy option in 2017.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Jets GM Mike Maccagnan didn't commit to Josh McCown as the team's starting quarterback, when asked.

McCown is the favorite to start, but it'll likely be an open competition between him, Christian Hackenberg, and Bryce Petty. Maccagnan also said it's "highly unlikely" the team brings in another veteran quarterback this offseason. The fact that Maccagnan did not commit to McCown shouldn't be a big surprise—Todd Bowles is the head coach and the decision-maker when it comes to who plays.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

McCown is signing a one-year deal with the Jets.

After hosting Chase Daniel for a visit and reports of interest in Jay Cutler, the Jets are going with McCown as their probable stop-gap starter. He should be an improvement on Ryan Fitzpatrick, but McCown will not be a fantasy option in 2017 on a NYJ team that projects to be at the bottom of the NFL standings. It wouldn't be surprising if Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenburg made starts next year.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown is visiting the Cowboys, according to Adam Schefter.

McCown will be a free agent tomorrow, and obviously the Cowboys see him as a possible backup quarterback option if and when they trade or release Tony Romo. McCown is among the best backups in the league and would be a nice get for the Cowboys if they part ways with Romo.

Josh McCown throws for over 300 yards, gets sacked seven times in Week 12 loss to Giants.

McCown was 25/43 for 322 yards and a touchdown, with two lost fumbles. McCown seems to always get beat up when he plays, but you have to give him credit for playing extremely hard and laying his body on the line for his winless team. The Browns have a bye this week, and McCown might not be the starter in Week 14, pending the health of Cody Kessler and/or RGIII.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

Josh McCown was 14/27 for 118 yards and one touchdown and a lost fumble in relief for Cody Kessler on Sunday.

He also rushed twice for 11 yards, which actually led the Browns. The fumble happened in the 4th quarter with Cleveland down one possession, and it was recovered for a touchdown by the Steelers to put the game out of reach. McCown will start Week 12 against the Giants because of Cody Kessler’s concussion, but he might not be starting for long with Robert Griffin III looking likely to return this season. Either way, McCown is not a good fantasy option next week.

Josh McCown | Free Agent QB

McCown plays second half of Browns 28-7 loss to the Ravens.

He surprisingly entered the game to start the second half with the Browns leading 7-6. McCown was 6/13 with two interceptions and two fumbles (one lost). The Browns will very likely go back to the rookie Kessler for the remainder of the season. McCown should not be owned in fantasy leagues.
