WOLF SPORTS PROJECTION

Justin Herbert | Chargers QB

Justin Herbert will be the Chargers' starting quarterback moving forward.

Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn just announced the news. This is very unfortunate for veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor, as the situation was totally out of his control with a freak medical mishap puncturing his lung and forcing him out of action. But Herbert has looked too good to keep of the field, particularly last week against Todd Bowles' aggressive Tampa Bay defense. Herbert's rushing potential along with the prowess he showed as a passer makes him an interesting fantasy option through the rest of the year.

Justin Herbert | Chargers QB

Justin Herbert is expected to start for the Chargers in Week 3.

Tyrod Taylor reportedly had his lung accidentally punctured while the team doctor tried to give him a pain-killing injection, so he is not expected to be ready to go for this Sunday. Taylor is now thought to be out indefinitely as he deals with the punctured lung, so consider him week-to-week. Herbert was highly impressive in his NFL debut last Sunday, especially when you consider he was told he would be starting right at kickoff. In deeper leagues in particular, Herbert is someone to keep an eye on if he's on the waiver wire after the way he played in Week 2.

Justin Herbert | Chargers QB

The Chargers have selected Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

We've now had three quarterbacks go in the top six, as Herbert goes right behind Tua Tagovailoa (to Miami). Herbert was a four-year starter at Oregon (in his hometown of Eugene), and he'll stay on the West Coast and move down to southern California as the franchise quarterback of the Chargers. Veteran Tyrod Taylor is currently the starter for Los Angeles, so the franchise can afford to be patient with Herbert and not play him until he's ready. But when Herbert does take over the starting job, he'll likely be in an offense that has Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Hunter Henry, and Austin Ekeler among the skill position players. Our scouting report on Herbert can be read in the link below.
